Data Scientist, Applied Research

Salary and Compensation Annual base salary range: $132,800.00 - $219,100.00. Additional performance‑based incentives may be available. Position Overview Travelers Data Scientists advance the organization’s intelligence using advanced statistical techniques, machine learning algorithms, and AI. As a Data Scientist, you partner with business stakeholders to identify opportunities for data analysis, develop experiments, and solve key business challenges. Your role includes designing, building, and delivering predictive models, communicating insights, and telling stories using data. Key Responsibilities Assist in the design and development of analytical solutions. Share knowledge with the community through discussions, presentations, or peer reviews. Manage expectations with business partners for small projects, identify potential conflicts, and build consensus. Communicate analysis, insights, and results to managers, peers, and business partners, tailoring communication to the audience. Mentor or serve as a resource for less experienced analytic talent, onboard new employees and interns, and support intern recruiting and talent assessment efforts. Support various training and skill‑development initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned. Ideal Candidate • Master’s degree in a STEM‑related field or equivalent.• 3years of related experience.• Strong working knowledge of modeling, research, analytics or actuarial work.• Relevant statistical analysis experience.• Advanced knowledge of statistical techniques and the ability to read, revise, and review statistical software programs.• Ability to develop models and interpret model results.• Understanding of advanced statistics underlying data models.• Ability to apply emerging statistical procedures to work.• Strong knowledge in regression, classification, machine vision, natural language processing, deep learning, and statistical modeling. Must Qualifications Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Decision Sciences, Actuarial Science, or a related analytical STEM field plus two years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Heavy concentration in mathematics— including statistics, programming, business intelligence/analytics, and data science tools— is required.
