Respiratory Therapist Job Details

• Location: Columbia, South Carolina 29203
• Assignment Type: 13-week travel respiratory therapy contract
• Start Date: November 16, 2026
• End Date: February 15, 2027
• Schedule: Night shift, 3 shifts per week
• Shift Duration: 12-hour shifts, approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,520–$1,640
• Weekend Coverage: Required; frequency may vary and is generally no more than every other weekend
• Call: Up to 2 call shifts per 6-week schedule; night-shift call coverage is generally from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. when assigned
• Healthcare Setting: On-site hospital respiratory care services

Registered Respiratory Therapist Job Requirements

• Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and authorization to practice in South Carolina
• At least 1 year of recent respiratory therapy experience in an acute-care or community hospital setting
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• At least 1 year of experience with Epic electronic medical records
• Experience caring for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations
• Competency with adult critical care, mechanical ventilation, airway management, and respiratory emergencies
• Flu vaccination is required
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach

Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor, and provide respiratory care for patients across a range of acuity levels
• Manage oxygen therapy, high-flow nasal cannula, CPAP, BiPAP, IMV, SIMV, tracheostomy collars, and other ventilatory support modalities
• Assist with intubation and extubation, airway placement, emergency response, and ventilator weaning
• Perform and interpret arterial blood gas testing and support respiratory treatment planning
• Provide aerosolized medication administration, pulmonary hygiene, suctioning, chest physiotherapy, and tracheostomy care
• Support bronchoscopy, rapid response activity, and other advanced respiratory procedures within demonstrated competencies
• Collect sputum specimens and maintain accurate clinical documentation in Epic
• Assist with interdepartmental and ambulance patient transport while maintaining respiratory support
• Float to other qualified units or locations as needed and participate in scheduled weekend and call coverage
