Lead Cook

Job Description 7 hour per day (6:30 am - 2:00 pm), 5 days per week, Student attendance days. 60 day probation for new hires. Rate of pay: $25.44 - $29.20 per hour. Starting date: Immediately. This position reports to the Sous Chef and is evaluated by the building principal in collaboration with the Sous Chef. Essential Functions / Primary Duties Develops a cohesive unit that achieves and maintains high customer satisfaction. Manages the kitchen successfully. Streamlines work of all kitchen staff, including cooks. Maintains multiple areas of the kitchen. Conducts physical inventories for inventory management, verifies stock and identifies losses. Uses knowledge of daily meal participation to prepare meals with minimal waste. Tracks participation and collects data as required. Inspects food items and supplies to meet mandated nutrition and projected meal requirements, minimizing waste. Leads and guides culinary services personnel to optimize performance safely and efficiently, maximizing workforce efficiency. Maintains accurate records to meet state, federal and administrative requirements. Works with the Cook/Cashier to prepare documents (e.g., meal counts, inventory reports) for planning purposes. Monitors kitchen/equipment operations, ensures equipment is in safe working order. Orders equipment and supplies for weekly use in the cafeteria. Prepares food and beverage items meeting mandated nutrition and projected meal requirements for onsite consumption or redistribution. Stocks food, condiments, and supplies maintaining adequate quantities and security. Tests prepared food for flavor, appearance, and temperature to ensure acceptability. Arranges food and beverage items for availability to students and staff. Serves food meeting mandated nutritional requirements. Secondary Duties Shares responsibility for kitchen cleaning including utensils, dishes, trays, floors, equipment, and storage areas to maintain sanitary conditions. Responds to inquiries from students and staff regarding meal items and pricing. Other relevant duties as assigned within reasonable scope. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Skills: Adhere to safety practices, prepare and maintain accurate records, utilize industrial‑grade food service equipment, use software applications, demonstrate strong leadership and patience, team and goal oriented. Knowledge: Basic math (fractions, percents, ratios), read manuals, write documents, understand complex instructions; quantities cooking, health standards, hazards, food safe handling, meal planning, food purchasing, manage high‑volume food preparation. Ability: Schedule activities, collate data, consider factors when using equipment; work with others, diverse individuals, problem‑solve, set priorities, work around children, maintain effective relationships. Working Environment Physical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching; fine finger dexterity; 10% sitting, 30% walking, 60% standing; may involve temperature extremes and hazardous conditions. Experience & Education Job‑related experience required. High School diploma or equivalent. Transportation Access to reliable personal transportation required. Required Testing Pre‑employment proficiency test. Certificates & Licenses Food Handler’s Certificate Valid First Aid/CPR Certification Continuing Education / Training Annual relevant training required.
