Job Title: Progressive Care Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Current RN Licensure Certifications: BLS, ACLS required Must-Have: Pediatric experience preferred. Experience in post heart catheterization preferred. Experience with post-operative vascular surgery patients. Description: The Progressive Care Nurse will provide care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients in a medical/surgical unit who do not require transfer to the ICU. This role includes providing physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural support to patients. Anticipated patient populations include, but are not limited to, post-operative surgical patients requiring more intensive monitoring, pre and post PCI care, pacemaker placement, revascularization, carotid endarterectomy, and others not on titratable drips. Staff will expect patients to be in relative stability while recognizing that some diagnoses may require skilled assessment and intervention tools for potential deterioration. The nurse will be required to operate advanced medical equipment and care for patients with various needs, including central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, multiple IVs, and long-term stable ventilation support. The role involves collaboration with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Nurses will effectively interact with patients and significant others while maintaining the standards of professional nursing. The nurse must have the ability to assess and implement established policies and procedures with minimal supervision. This role includes acting as a clinical leader and assisting with precepting staff. The nurse will provide direct care for patients throughout their hospital stay, from admission to discharge, including discharge planning. Directions will be given to RN, LPN, CNA, Housekeeping Staff, and Dietary Staff. The Progressive Care Nurse will also complement the Medical-Surgical Nursing Unit when staffing actions are required. Knowledge and skills required include the use of basic office equipment, operation of multiple IV pumps, and advanced medical equipment. This includes working with invasive lines, chest tubes, and patients requiring both noninvasive and invasive ventilatory support, along with basic cardiac telemetry and EKG interpretation. Medication management abilities include managing common IV medications.
