The Clinical Dietician works with patients and the clinical team to provide personalized nutrition recommendations to promote patient healing; they educate patients and families with practical dietary suggestions, mindful of each patient’s cultural and emotional environment. Required Qualifications BS Dietetics Registered Dietitian credentials Licensed State of New Mexico Ability to work individually and in a team Self‑directed Ability to prioritize tasks Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to instruct and coach staff Excellent customer service skills Duties and Responsibilities Nutrition Consults Consults are addressed within the day following request and completion is documented in the electronic medical record (EMR). Nutrition Assessments Assessments for patients identified at nutrition risk via the Nutrition Screen or the Malnutrition Screening Tool are completed within two days and entered into the EMR. Follow‑up Evaluations Re‑evaluate and document the plan of care for patients at nutrition risk within at least one week of the initial assessment, and as necessary thereafter. Nutrition Education Provide education to inpatients and outpatients at SJRMC, SJRRH, and the Cancer Center to facilitate self‑management of medical nutrition therapy. Nutrition Classes Design and present classes (e.g., cardiac, diabetes, pulmonary, weight management) with current nutrition information for patients, providers, and graduate nursing students. Provide education to patients and caregivers at an understandable level. Document education in the EMR within 24 hours of service. Outpatient Medical Nutrition Therapy Provide education to outpatients at an understandable level. Document individual medical nutrition therapy to the provider office within one week. Community Nutrition Develop and present timely nutrition topics based on community need. Coordinate with marketing when appropriate and complete the community report form. Committees Attend committee meetings as an active participant, report progress to the clinical team, and serve as an education resource to other staff. Clinical/IT Projects Participate in projects involving clinical and information technology overlap; assist with staff training as assigned. Telephone Inquiries Respond in a timely manner to phone inquiries; if by voicemail, attempt to return the call within 24 hours of receipt. CDR Registration & State Licensure Maintain current professional knowledge and keep CDR registration and state licensure up to date. Department Education Attend department in‑services and meetings; participate in QA/PI programs when assigned. Complete all annual HealthStream modules. Service Standards Implement the organization’s Service Standards—Safety, Courtesy, Effectiveness, and Stewardship—into daily work. Other duties as assigned (demonstrates willingness and follows through with other duties requested). Physical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions Mostly completing paperwork; extensive walking, sitting, and standing required.
