About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Med-Surg and Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 1-2 years in an acute care setting License: Active RN license Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Ostomy care and IV skills Description: Level III Trauma Center with a comprehensive stroke center. Facility has 933 beds. Unit focuses on Medical-Surgical and Telemetry care. Patient types include those with chest pain, post-cath lab recovery, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and other acute illnesses. Typically, the average patient stay is 36 hours. Daily, nurses may admit or discharge 2-3 patients. Patient-to-nurse ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:6-8 at night. Unit support includes a charge nurse, unit secretary, hospitalists, respiratory therapists, and centralized telemetry monitoring. Patients are primarily ambulatory, with skills required including basic medical-surgical experience and experience in admissions and discharges. Basic drip management is needed for medications such as heparin, insulin, Cardizem, and Amiodarone. No ventilators or tracheostomy care involved. The position requires the ability to document pain levels accurately before and after administering medications. The schedule is created six weeks ahead of time, with opportunities for time off. Holiday expectations include working one holiday per season. Scrub color is flexible, excluding camo and denim.
