Job Title: Commercial Plumber – Federal Facility Job Description
This role focuses on installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting commercial plumbing systems in a large, occupied federal training facility. You will perform both above‑ground and underground plumbing work, interpret blueprints and specifications, and ensure all installations meet relevant codes and safety standards. The position offers exposure to advanced commercial HVAC equipment, including chillers and VRV/VRF systems, in a collaborative maintenance environment.
Responsibilities- Install and configure plumbing systems, ensuring proper layout, slope, and full compliance with applicable codes and safety standards.
- Assemble, maintain, and troubleshoot venting systems to support efficient and safe operation of plumbing and related mechanical systems.
- Work with copper piping, including accurate cutting, soldering, brazing, and performing repairs as needed.
- Install and repair cast iron piping systems using appropriate joining methods, tools, and industry best practices.
- Perform above‑ground plumbing installations for new construction and remodel projects, including fixture and piping installation.
- Handle underground plumbing work, including layout and installation of sewer, water, and drainage systems in accordance with project specifications.
- Execute underground rough‑in work, ensuring sanitary, storm, and water lines are correctly laid out and installed per drawings and codes.
- Perform in‑wall rough‑ins, accurately installing piping, supports, and fixtures during early construction phases.
- Read and interpret blueprints, plumbing drawings, and job specifications with a high level of accuracy to plan and execute plumbing layouts.
- Carry out precise job site layout using tape measures and other layout tools to measure, mark, and install plumbing components.
- Coordinate plumbing rough‑in activities with other trades to ensure proper system integration and adherence to project schedules.
- Support the operation and maintenance of commercial HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, VRV, and split systems, as they relate to plumbing interfaces.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements while working in mechanical rooms, rooftops, utility areas, and occupied facility spaces.
- Proven experience performing underground rough‑in work, including layout and installation of sanitary, storm, and water lines per project specifications.
- Strong experience with in‑wall rough‑ins, including accurate installation of piping, supports, and fixtures during early construction phases.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plumbing drawings, and specifications with a high level of accuracy.
- Proficiency in job site layout, including measuring, marking, and installing using a tape measure and other layout tools.
- Solid understanding of plumbing systems, applicable codes, and coordination with other trades during rough‑in stages.
- Hands‑on experience with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of venting systems.
- Practical skills working with copper piping, including cutting, soldering, brazing, and repairs.
- Experience installing and repairing cast iron systems using proper joining methods and tools.
- Capability to perform above‑ground plumbing installations for new construction and remodels.
- Capability to handle underground plumbing work, including sewer, water, and drainage systems.

- OSHA certifications preferred, but not required.

- Comfort working from blueprints and specifications in a commercial or institutional environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and code compliance.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative maintenance team.

Work EnvironmentThe position is based in a large, occupied federal training facility with a mix of indoor mechanical rooms, rooftops, utility areas, and campus‑wide buildings. You work primarily on a day shift schedule from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The role involves navigating active training spaces, mechanical and utility areas, and outdoor rooftop locations while adhering to strict safety standards and facility protocols.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Charleston, SC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.16 - $38.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
