Network Systems Administrator

The Network Systems Administrator plays an important role in supporting the Library’s technology infrastructure by helping to ensure that networked systems, servers, applications, and equipment are secure, reliable, and effectively maintained.

JOB SUMMARY:

Maintain and configure the Library’s network systems, servers, firewalls, switches, applications, and other equipment. Perform hardware and software upgrades, patches, configuration changes, and daily systems maintenance. Manage server backups and ensure successful daily backups of server data. Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, networking, and system issues. Monitor network security and system performance to help prevent disruptive failures. Rebuild network components, when necessary, due to a network crash or failure. Manage IT-related licensing contracts with software vendors. Administer user access, privileges, and security. Research and make recommendations for network and server hardware and software purchases. Assist with development of the annual IT budget. Respond to IT emergencies and power outages during and outside of library hours. Provide staff user support as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems, Computer Science, MIS, Business Intelligence, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience. Three (3) years of experience as a network administrator preferred. Knowledge of network services such as DHCP, DNS, NTP, etc. Experience administering a virtual environment. Windows Server and Client troubleshooting experience. Cisco firewall administration experience. Possess strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Communicate effectively, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical colleagues. Effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities. Work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team in a shared workspace. LOCATION: 505 N. Northwest Highway, Barrington, IL. This is a hybrid position with both onsite and remote work opportunities. SCHEDULING: General scheduling is Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 4 PM. Remote work is optional and may generally be scheduled one day per week. Occasional work outside of regularly scheduled hours may be required in response to emergencies or other operational needs. PAY & BENEFITS: This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), exempt (salaried) position. Starting pay range is $68,000 - 70,000 per year. Skills, experience, and internal equity will determine offer made within this range.
