Position: 4th Grade Teacher Location/School: Oakwood Intermediate 4th/5th Grade Posting Dates: August 7 - August 12, 2026 ( internal / external ) or until filled Reports To: Oakwood Intermediate Principal Starting Wage: Based on the 2026-2027 Schedule A pay in the AEA Contract Work Schedule: 2026-27 Contracted School-Year Effective Employment Date: August 17 for new teacher orientation This position is part of the Allendale Education Association (AEA). Please see the agreement on the website for more information at the Budget & Salary /Compensation Transparency Reporting icon. Position Purpose: Under the general supervision of the school principal, to facilitate 4th grade students' cognitive and social growth through engaging and developmentally appropriate educational activities. This role focuses on enhancing students' foundational skills in mathematics, science, literacy, and social studies while also fostering a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity and a love for learning. Qualifications:
Equipment: Uses standard office equipment such as computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements: Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

- Must hold a valid State of Michigan Teacher Certification.
- Must hold an Elementary Education endorsement (ZG, ZP, ZE, or ZC) .
- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignments.
- Successful prior teaching experience in 4th grade and elementary education is preferred but not required.
- Must meet State of Michigan Professional Development requirements.
- Need to possess a passion for teaching elementary school students.
- Demonstrate the use of interventions to support student learning, behavior, and attendance.
- Strong technology and computer skills are required.
- Excellent communication skills - oral and written.
- Regular and reliable attendance is expected.
- Must have a caring, nurturing teaching style.
- Must be able to differentiate instruction for students.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
- Be knowledgeable about standards (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies).
- Ability to integrate technology into the classroom.
- Develops and administers 4th grade and elementary education curriculum consistent with school district approvals, goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to whole class, individualized, and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for subject area, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Demonstrates ability to differentiate instruction by creating challenging and engaging learning opportunities for all students.
- Teaches knowledge and skills in 4th grade and elementary education.
- Proven ability to apply ELA, math, science and social studies content knowledge, formative assessment, and technology integration at a high level.
- Deep understanding of student learning theory, brain-based learning, and differentiated instruction.
- Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of skills and knowledge towards problem-solving.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learning of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional development meetings.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and policies.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within their grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Uses appropriate and approved books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
- Demonstrate an understanding of working with standards.
- Uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephones.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and elementary educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of a wide range of 4th grade and elementary education subject areas.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
- Ability to work in various environments.
