and Communications
August 2026 Job Title Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications Reports To Chief Operating Officer FLSA Exempt Function The Senior Manager of Marketing & Communications is both a hands-on operator, content producer and a strategic driver, responsible for the Boulder Chamber's brand voice, marketing execution, and event and membership growth.

Boulder Chamber is entering one of its highest-visibility moments in decades — from the 2027 Sundance Film Festival activation to Boulder Together's multi-year community initiatives — and this role needs to move with urgency on deadline-driven work while thinking strategically about how every campaign, publication, and event builds the Boulder Chamber's brand over time.

Currently, there are no internal direct reports; this position manages the Boulder Chamber's marketing partners — including our outsourced marketing automation, social media, and web/technical support providers — along with other contractors, freelancers, and deliverables, and requires operational ownership of the marketing department along with a fundamental understanding of its finances, aligning timelines via project management tools.

This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and meets weekly with the Leadership Team for strategic guidance and accountability for marketing deliverables and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities Program & Event Marketing

• Promote the Boulder Chamber’s annual Signature Events (currently eight, subject to change) and Impact Programs across digital, print, and local media.

• Direct and approve multi-channel campaigns — built and executed by our marketing partners — to maximize registration, ticket sales, affinity/member perks, and attendance for each event and program. Review the performance of each event and program from a marketing perspective, debrief, and incorporate learnings into the following year's marketing calendar.

• Direct and participate in building dedicated landing pages, registration pipelines, and automated email workflows for all events and programs — hosted by our marketing partners, with this role setting requirements and approving final output.

• Develop sponsorship fulfillment assets and the sponsor narrative alongside the Membership team, using audience and performance data from our marketing partners to deliver clear, provable ROI to sponsors, investors, and corporate partners.

• Manage disaster and emergency communications alongside the CEO and AVP of Economic Impact Programs — directing message content and timing while our marketing partners execute the sends — including external websites and other materials, in collaboration with Disaster Response leadership and other external communications partners.

• Work with other external communications partners on major local and regional activities — such as the Sundance Film Festival and Northwest Chamber Alliance — including shared websites and joint communications.

• Support every Signature Event and other programs with marketing assistance; including content, promotional materials, and campaign execution. Participate in sponsorship review and coordination.

Brand Communication & Content Strategy

• Design and draft all public-facing copy — press releases, social media and newsletter content, executive talking points, advocacy statements, and annual reports — in collaboration with external contractors and the relevant department head.

• Participate in producing digital content — blog entries and multimedia assets — that tells the story of member and community impact; review, edit, and approve the member newsletter drafted by our marketing partners.

• Serve as the primary media contact for local Boulder journalists — managing press lists, scheduling, and outreach — while the CEO, Policy/Advocacy team, and other Leadership Team experts serve as the organization's public-facing spokespeople.

Publication Ownership & Editorial Control

• Own Boulder Today , the Boulder Chamber's flagship annual publication, from authoring through design and production, in collaboration with organization leaders and division heads.

• Support department-led publications : grant or contract impact reports and flagship print editorial assets, handling drafting, layout, and production while the Boulder Chamber's marketing partners manage digital distribution.

Strategy, Planning & Leadership Reporting

• Own the marketing plan of work and calendar : build and maintain the plan on Airtable, present for organization-wide alignment, and participate in annual Leadership Team planning and budget forecast sessions.

• Report performance to Leadership : present marketing data, ROI, and growth statistics to the Leadership Team using the monthly attribution scorecard and outside benchmarks.

Marketing Operations & MarTech

• Direct the Boulder Chamber's digital presence : set content strategy and direction for the website, working with Boulder Chamber’s internal website review team and our marketing partners on technical implementation. Have a hands-on ability to make website updates and a working understanding of basic site functionality.
  
  
• Administer GrowthZone day-to-day, Airtable tracking, social media oversight.

Contractor & Vendor Management

• Manage outsourced contractors and vendors : direct the social media contractor's content calendars and account activity, and source, onboard, and oversee additional graphic design, web, or copywriting support as needed to augment campaign capacity during peak event or publication seasons.

• Coordinate content and timeline management : work with external marketing contractor, social media contractor and internal staff team to make sure content is delivered in a timely fashion and that messaging statements and timelines are coordinated across these three groups for consistency with the marketing calendar and strategic marketing goals.

Budget & Fiscal Planning

• Own the marketing departmental budget process : build the annual forecast with the Leadership Team using historical Finance data and department priorities (including marketing partner fees); monitor spend against caps and flag variances early; and negotiate vendor agreements, deliverables, and invoices in collaboration with the relevant department lead, with Finance oversight on contract thresholds.

• Manage marketing projects and deadlines with department leads to achieve organizational goals.

Qualification

• Education : Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, or a related field required, or equivalent professional experience; Master's degree preferred.

• Experience : 8-12 years of progressive marketing and communications experience, ideally within a chamber of commerce, trade association, or B2B non-profit environment.

• Publication & Report Writing : Proven track record of managing and producing long-form publications and other ongoing communications and marketing materials from concept and drafting/writing to print, including newsletters, press releases, website material, annual business updates and/or grant-funded impact reports.

• Project Management Mastery : Advanced expertise using project management tools, preferably Airtable , GrowthZone , including building relational databases, creating automated workflows, managing the calendar, and designing interface dashboards for project tracking.

• Contractor & Budget Ownership : 3+ years of experience contributing to and managing a marketing/communications department budget and managing external creative agencies or freelancers.

• Executive Presence : Confident presentation skills, with experience delivering data, analytics, and ROI reports to Leadership and comfort stepping into speaking opportunities in front of senior executives.

• Tools & Design : Working familiarity with email automation platforms and WordPress CMS, sufficient to direct and evaluate a marketing partner's output, plus hands-on, day-to-day administration of membership CRMs (GrowthZone), plus hands-on proficiency with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite and working knowledge of graphic design principles (layout, typography, brand consistency), sufficient to produce or closely direct polished sponsor decks, event collateral, and publication layouts.

Hybrid consists of an in-office presence of a minimum of two days per week at the office. Available during core hours (8-5) and on camera for virtual meetings.

Position requires professionalism in appearance and actions.

Flexibility to work early morning and evening hours for Chamber events, department needs, and emergency communications. Typical Physical Demands

• Operate normal business office equipment; travel via own transportation to off-site meetings.
• Ability to pick up and transport marketing materials as needed with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds for event support and room setup.
• This role requires attendance for the full period of all Signature Events and lead AV at events.
