Reports to: Dir.  of Auxiliary Programs; Dir. of Education |  Classification: Part-Time Hourly

Hours: Monday–Friday, 11:30 PM–5:15 PM when school is in session  | Rate:$23.00-25.00/hr

Note: This position is open to applicants over the age of 21.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Director is a part-time, hourly, childcare leader and serves as the point person for After Care Staff and as the lead for our Lower School Nap Program.  This position leads staff on a day to day basis and reports to the Director of Auxiliary programs. The Assistant Director also serves as back-up coverage in our Young Children’s Community, Lower School and Lower Elementary classrooms.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Effectively lead and manage After Care staff,Manage end-of-school day classroom pick-ups and deliveries to the Community Room.

• Organize staff for extra out-of-school childcare events

• Organize the Lower School Nap Program, including staffing and parent communications

• Provide coverage for lunches, recesses, and teacher breaks in the larger school

• Upkeep and organization of the Community Room

• Manage EOD dismissal to parents/caregivers

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge

• A proficient understanding of positive discipline techniques.

• A familiarity  of Montessori principles and practices.

• Knowledge of childcare best practices and risk management.

• Knowledge of rules and regulations regarding scheduling hourly employees

Skills & Competencies

• Group and classroom management skills.

• Staff Mentoring and Coaching Skills

• Basic First Aid and CPR certification (training provided and required by the school).

• Coaching and sports facilitation.

• Ability to work and collaborate effectively as part of a team of professionals.

• Ability to remain calm, patient, and flexible in a busy and sometimes unpredictable environment.

• Ability to maintain a positive attitude and high energy level throughout the program period

• Reliable transportation to and from the school each afternoon assigned to work.

• Physical ability to participate in active games and outdoor activities, including standing, walking, running, and lifting light equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a part-time position. Work is performed indoors and outdoors and in program spaces on the WMS campus. Auxiliary Programs Staff are expected to be present and engaged for the full duration of each assigned shift (Monday–Friday, 11:30-5:15 PM) during the school day. The role involves active physical participation and direct supervision of children and adult staff in a dynamic school environment.
