PT - Advising & Outreach Specialist

Summary of Function: Provides advising, outreach, and wrap-around services and supports student success initiatives through a Guided Pathways, Appreciative Advising, and data-informed decision-making approach. Typical Duties: Serves Students. Provides academic and career advising using an Appreciative Advising approach that recognizes and builds upon student strengths, goals, experiences, and potential. Helps students identify educational and career goals and develop academic plans aligned with Guided Pathways and their intended program of study. Uses student data, academic progress, assessment results, and other available information to inform advising decisions, identify barriers, determine appropriate interventions, and provide proactive follow-up. Develops student understanding of degree, certificate, workforce, adult education, and career pathway options and connects students with appropriate college resources. Maintains accurate student records and documentation and uses data and reports to support informed student success, advising, outreach, and retention strategies. Conducts outreach to schools, community organizations, employers, workforce partners, and other community stakeholders. Represents college at community events, recruitment activities, presentations, workshops, orientations, and other outreach opportunities. Builds positive relationships with students and community partners and implements recruitment strategies designed to increase awareness, enrollment, and participation in college programs. Contacts new students in various modes of communication to provide information about available programs and services, encourage enrollment, and assist them in taking the next steps toward becoming enrolled students. Follows up with prospective and newly admitted students to answer questions, address barriers, encourage enrollment, and connect students with appropriate college resources and services Assists college with wrap around services such as admissions, registration, financial aid application, payment plans, testing set up, and other enrollment processes. Assists students in identifying and applying for scholarships, sponsorships, grants, workforce funding, and other available financial resources. Connects students and visitors with appropriate information, college resources, community organizations, and other support services. Follows up with students to help resolve barriers that may affect enrollment, persistence, or completion. Supports workshops, orientations, Strategies for Success course, and other student success activities designed to help students develop the skills and knowledge needed to successfully navigate college and career preparation. Promotes student engagement, retention, and persistence through proactive communication, encouragement, follow-up, and connection to college clubs and resources. Participates in college engagement events and student activities. Assists with event preparation, coordination, promotion, and follow-up as appropriate to increase student participation. Supports and participates in strategic planning initiatives, and performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Associate’s degree or higher, AND Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service, adapt to changing needs and circumstances, manage multiple priorities, and demonstrate problem-solving and initiative when working with others. Experience in advising, counseling, outreach, recruitment, student services, case management, education, or a related field is preferred but not required.
