Fleet Maintenance Technician

Job Description

This classification is a safety-sensitive position as defined by the United States Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations and/or the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act. As a safety-sensitive classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana certification will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION Performs a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks on City vehicles and equipment and maintain a GREAT working relationship with other departments and co-workers daily.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Works under the direction of the Superintendent. 2. Evaluate and repair city vehicles and small engine-powered equipment. To provide safe, reliable and productive vehicles and equipment to user departments in a cost-effective and timely manner. 3. Provides guidance to co-workers engaged in the repair and servicing of a wide variety of automotive and small engine equipment; provides technical advice and guidance in the diagnosis and repair of difficult problems. 4. Consults with departments to evaluate their automotive or equipment repair or maintenance needs. Reviews and recommends to the individual user department and Assistant Public Works Director and/or Public Works Director budgets pertaining to fleet functions. 5. Performs major repair, overhaul, and maintenance jobs on automotive equipment. 6. Performs daily updates and assists with maintaining the computerized maintenance database, prepares reports, receives and responds to requests for information concerning fleet operations and maintenance services. You are responsible that this database is updated and kept current at all times. This data is extremely important and shall be considered as such. 7. Assist in ordering and ensure that the garage is properly stocked and organized. 8. Maintains a variety of records and prepares reports on such areas as inventory, automotive repairs, fuel inspections, etc. 9. Maintains oils and tire changes on city vehicles. 10. Cleaning work area and tools. Maintaining a professional garage at all times. 11. May be required to supervise staff in the absence of the Superintendent. 12. Insure that the department operates in accordance with established safety procedures and policies and is in compliance with all PEOSH/OSHA safety rules and regulations. 13. This position may require hours outside your normal work schedule at any time and on call after hours. 14. Perform any other required duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS • Primarily indoors; • Subject to exposure to the outside environment wherein there are disagreeable working conditions, some of the time; • Subject to frequent to high to low-level to loud inside/outside noise; • Subject to working irregular work days if needed; • Moving mechanical parts; • Heights between 10' to 40' high; • Exhaust and possible chemical exposure. This is not an all-inclusive list; there are other conditions that the candidate will need to adapt to day to day operations, which at times can be unpredictable. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES • Walking, bending, stooping, crawling, being on your hands and knees; • Finger dexterity enough to operate equipment such as a smartphone, personal keyboard; • Near vision enough to read and review smartphone screen and computer generated work orders; • Speech and hearing enough to communicate clearly and distinctly in person and by telephone; • Primarily indoor garage environment; occasionally working in an office setting; • Flexible enough to use hands and arms to grab, hold, reach, etc.; • Strength to lift and/or move up to 100 lbs; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs; • Driving assigned vehicle.

This is a summary of benefits for all General Employees. FOP and IAFF members do receive some of these benefits, but are governed by their individual CBA contracts and benefits. Accidental Death/Dismemberment & Life Insurance: The City pays 100% of this benefit premium. Life insurance is your salary rounded to the next $1,000. Short-term disability is also part of this benefit. Birthday Check: 40 hours pay for the week and a day off for your birthday during the pay period. CDL License Incentive: $ 250.00 - $ 500.00 - Paid in September of each year. College Degree Incentive: Associates Degree - $ 800.00 Annually Bachelors Degree - $ 1,400.00 Annually Masters Degree - $ 2,000.00 Annually Certification Pay* - $ 800.00 Annually *City Manager Approval-must require CEU's to maintain. Health/Dental Insurance: The employer will pay 100% of full-time employees health and dental coverage. You may add dependents to your health and dental insurance at your cost. Your benefits begin the 1st of the month after hire date. Holidays: General full-time employees receive 14 paid holidays per year. These are to be taken as directed by City of Yukon policy. Longevity: Full-time employees - $16.00 per month after your 4th year of service, Retirement: General employees - The City has a Defined Contribution Plan. The employee must contribute 5% per check to this plan and for 2026-2027 the City will contribute 10.00% per paycheck toward your retirement. The vesting period is 7 years. This deduction starts the 1st of the month after 90 days. Share the Savings: If you choose not to cover you and/or your dependent(s) on the City's insurance, we will compensate you. (must have eligible dependent(s) with proof of other coverage) General employees - $ 235.00 per quarter. Sick Leave: General employees earn 8 hours per month. You are not eligible to use earned leave until you have completed 6 continuous months of employment. Vacation Leave: General employees earn 8 hours per month the first 9 years of employment. You are not eligible to use earned leave until you have completed 6 continuous months of employment. Water License Incentive: $ 25.00 - $ 100.00 - Paid in March of each year. NOTE: We require mandatory direct deposit of payroll funds. Your banking arrangements must be in place prior to your hire date.
