Interior Design & Structural Integration Engineer II (Full Time) Department: Engineering ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS, CONDITIONS, AND COMPETENCIES POSITION SUMMARY The Engineer II is primarily responsible for modeling and drafting new or modified designs that meet FAA certification and company requirements, in addition to providing limited technical guidance and peer review of design data. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Provide technical and creative guidance regarding the creation of new and modified designs that are complementary to the overall interior style, minimize weight and cost, and comply with all applicable regulatory requirements. Participate in developing original concepts for new interiors as well as redesigning existing interiors. Design interior details, assemblies, and installations including cabin side panels, tables, overheads, carpeting and padding, cabin insulation, consoles, instrument panels, glare shields, stowage compartments, placards, bezels, seats, etc. Produce conceptual layout, installation, assembly, and detail drawings using NX and Teamcenter. Review and check models, drawings, reports, coordination memos of fellow Interior Design Engineers to verify they are accurate, producible, and consistent with project requirements. Compose Engineering Orders (EO) to revise designs or incorporate changes/modifications to existing three dimensional models and drawings utilizing Siemens NX. Interact with outside suppliers for hardware, fastener, and material selection while maximizing the usage of existing off-the-shelf components wherever practical. Coordinate design work with Structural Design, Structural Analysis, Sales/Marketing, Manufacturing, Supply Management, and other teams. Support Production and Customer Support in troubleshooting assembly, installation, and operational challenges. Perform some project management, including project scope creation and recommendations, progress tracking, and completion estimations. Perform other related duties as required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities. May be required to train and assist other employees, effectively partnering and collaborating on department and cross‑functional organizational initiatives. MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Requires Bachelor degree in engineering, preferably mechanical or aerospace. Minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering position. General aviation related experience in design required, preferably in aerospace or aircraft manufacturing environment. General knowledge of all phases of aircraft design, testing, approval, manufacturing, inspection and service, materials and material strengths, manufacturing processes and techniques related to fabrication and assembly; working knowledge of Siemens NX; familiarity with FAR 23 and certification required. Working knowledge of Windows based computer programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. Requires moderate physical effort, including occasionally lifting and/or moving light to moderately heavy weight materials up to 35 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. MENTAL DEMANDS General knowledge of all phases of aircraft design, approval, manufacturing, and service, all manufacturing processes and techniques related to fabrication and assembly. Ability to foster collaborative relationships, work well under pressure, organize and synthesize new information, prioritize tasks, and demonstrate critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi‑task and maintain detailed attention in an environment where interruptions need to be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. WORKING CONDITIONS Frequent exposure to both office and manufacturing environments; may be exposed to odors, chemical agents, dust, fumes, gases, sharp objects, hazardous or moving equipment, wet slippery floors, extremes in temperature and humidity. Regular interaction with staff, vendors, suppliers, community members, and regulatory agency representatives. Travel and overtime may be required when necessary.
