Details 26-bed Neuro and Surgical ICU (NSICU) within a comprehensive stroke center Cares for various neurological patient populations including stroke, ICP, and seizure management cases Staffing ratios of 2:1, occasionally 3:1 Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-7:15) Every other weekend required Floating required to other ICUs and intermediate units Uses Pyxis and EPIC for medication and documentation, with SBAR communication Utilizes EVD management, ventilator management, Zoll temperature management/Arctic Sun, and PCAs Scheduling based on unit needs; no block scheduling Requirements Active RN license (NC or Compact) required; pending license/certs acceptable at submission Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience required Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS Experience with ICP monitoring, ventilator management, and telemetry required Experience with stroke management, seizure management, and critical care patient management including drip titration and invasive equipment Skills required include IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, and starting/maintaining IVs Respiratory skills required including BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, and ABG interpretation Neurological skills required including CVA/acute stroke management, hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun, ICP monitoring, lumbar drains, post neurosurgery management, and TBI care Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management skills required IV insulin protocol experience and isolation precautions/PPE knowledge required Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending acceptable at submission) Additional Information Provide critical care nursing to complex neurological and neurosurgical ICU patients within a comprehensive stroke center Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty Orientation is 24 hours, conducted weekly Scrubs not provided; navy blue or white or a combination of both required First-time travelers will not be accepted for this position Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, with facility approval required Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status, not both Up to 7 days of RTO auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays Travel pairs allowed if on different units with separate transportation and disclosed at submission American Traveler Job ID P-749060.
