As a Surveillance Officer for Floyd County Community Corrections, you'll be responsible for operating, controlling, and monitoring electronic monitoring devices to track the activities of participants ordered to alternative sentencing, intermediate sanction, or community transition program. This position monitors participant’s activities to ensure compliance and community safety.

Tasks include, but are not limited to assisting with the supervision of active program participants who are on various program components and closely monitors for compliance with program requirements.

  DUTIES:

• Makes telephone, in office, and field/home contacts. 
• Maintains accurate and up to date contact logs and notes in supervision databases, records field/home contacts on proper forms, makes contact with other agencies/employers/schools to monitor progress/attendance ; reviews messages received from program participants to determine compliance with attendance.
• Afterhours, holiday and on call work required.
• Monitors, troubleshoots, and addresses alerts that are received through the electronic monitoring database. Installs and removes electronic monitoring equipment, as necessary.
• Conducts drug and alcohol screening on a random basis or as needed and logs results accordingly for record keeping.
• Exercises good judgement and sound reasoning in determining whether participants are in compliance with court orders and their agency contract. 
• Prepares probable cause affidavits for new arrest charges, noncompliance reports, and assist in preparing violations to the court and prosecutors office. Testify in court as needed.
• Conducts random home/field/employment visits with and surveillance of program participants to assess compliance with program rules and regulations.
• Conducts searches of participant homes, vehicles, and person for the purpose of insuring compliance with program rules and regulations.
• Logs/prepares mileage reports. Maintains maintenance of department vehicle.
• Completes other duties as assigned.

  JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to maintain and apply all current knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and laws concerning Community Corrections operations established by the Advisory Board.
• Knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and ability to prepare required forms and reports within required deadlines. 
• Ability to maintain agency confidently requirements and reports as required.
• Ability to effectively listen, comprehend, communicate, and model pro-social behavior with both professional and non-professional co-workers, program participants, and officials from various governmental and social service agencies, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural, diversities, and disabilities.
• Ability to deal swiftly, rationally, and decisively with potentially violent individuals in precarious situations and take authoritative action applying appropriate discretion and common sense. 
• Ability to de-escalate volatile situations by means of conversation/negotiation.
• Must possess license to carry handgun in State of Indiana and be able to pass department training and firearm qualifications.
• Will be required to have evidenced based training and be able to effectively implement evidenced based practices into daily surveillance and supervision practices.
• Must have Bachelors Degree from an accredited college/university or five years of law enforcement/criminal justice experience.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
