Respiratory Therapist Role

In our facility the Respiratory Therapist covers our Med/surg floor, ER, and outpatients. They work 12 hours on, then 12 hours on call. They sometimes get called in for call back for emergencies, which they are compensated for at a 2 hour call back minimum. They work 3-12 hours shifts per week. It is a set schedule, working every other weekend. Our facility is a 25 bed critical access hospital. However our med/surg floor has 12 beds, and our ER has 10 beds. A typical day is spent rounding on med/surg inpatients, caring for all patients that come into the emergency room (level 4-stabilize and transfer), performing EKGs on all patients that come into the ER, as well as outpatient care which include pulmonary function tests when scheduled.
