Government Affairs Intern

This Government Affairs internship opportunity is best suited for a master’s-level student pursuing studies in law, criminology and criminal justice, public affairs, or political science. Under the direction of the Director of Government Affairs, the Government Affairs Intern will support the team by reviewing legislation produced by the Florida Legislature during its regular session. The intern will analyze and summarize legislative changes for the benefit of Florida sheriffs and their offices, while also performing other related duties that contribute to the overall success of the Government Affairs team. The day-to-day business of the Florida Sheriffs Association is directed by a strategic plan created and approved by the sheriffs of Florida. The plan contains five major goals: To provide effective and timely support, training and information exchanges for Florida’s sheriffs. To foster effective law enforcement, crime prevention, apprehension of criminals and protection of life and property of the citizens of Florida. To promote public awareness about developments in law enforcement, crime prevention, and public safety. To protect Florida’s future by promoting public programs and services focused on youth of our State. To effectively manage resources of the Florida Sheriffs Association. Qualifications Graduate student G.P.A. – 3.0 minimum Meets the institution’s standards and requirements for participation in an internship program.
