Director, Grants Compliance

How You’ll Contribute The Finance team is a valued thought partner, providing timely and accurate financial information, deriving insights from data, and empowering the organization with innovative solutions. The Finance Department’s major responsibilities include financial planning, accounting, payroll, purchasing, risk management, and treasury management. Reporting to the Deputy CFO & Controller, the Director, Grants Compliance will steward policies governing external foreign‑funded grants, potential U.S. Grants agreements, and subawards, ensuring compliance with donor laws, legal requirements, and internal policies. Key Responsibilities Oversee the full grant lifecycle: Act as the agency liaison for grant guidelines. Draft and manage Requests for Proposals (RFPs). Screen subaward applications for completeness and manage advisory committee reviews. Draft subaward documents, negotiate budgets, and confirm legal review. Ensure proper closeout procedures, final reporting, and document retention. Risk Assessment & Compliance Enforcement: Conduct pre‑award vetting and risk assessments, including reference checks and site visits. Prepare Memorandums of Negotiation and Risk Assessment Surveys. Develop corrective action plans for non‑compliance and, if necessary, suspend or terminate subawards. Review and approve subaward invoices prior to payment. Enforce procurement integrity standards and competition requirements. Guidance, Training & Auditing: Develop and conduct compliance training for subawardees. Maintain communication with Finance, Legal, and Audit to inform data management and risk assessment systems. Ensure subrecipients keep accurate inventories and financial records. Provide ongoing monitoring and coordinate with auditors on external award audits. What You’ll Bring Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field. Experience: 10+ years in nonprofit or higher education grants compliance, financial planning, and internal audit; 3+ years in management preferred. Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Workday or similar ledger systems; experience with international grants and subaward monitoring. Qualifications: Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving abilities for large data sets and risk assessments. Strong written, oral, and presentation skills to interface with staff, agencies, and subawardees. Self‑reliant work ethic with strong initiative and time‑management in a fast‑paced environment. Integrity and teamwork with confidentiality for sensitive materials. Compensation and Benefits Salary range: $156,750 – $165,000.
