OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Special Education or a designated administrator, provides educationally related occupational therapy services to eligible students. The Occupational Therapist serves as an integral member of the educational team, conducting assessments and preparing comprehensive written reports; delivering direct and consultative services based on identified student needs; and developing goals and objectives for consideration and implementation during IEP meetings. The established Eligibility List will remain in effect for one year. The District has the right to limit the number of eligible which can be reasonably used during the existence of the eligibility list. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS In order to be considered for this position, applicants must provide detailed information on their application to demonstrate how they meet the employment standards (Minimum Qualifications for Education and Experience and Licenses and other Requirements) shown below: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college and school based occupational therapy experience. Licenses and other Requirements Possession of a valid license to operate as a Certified Occupational Therapist issued by the California Board of Occupational Therapy (CBOT). First aid and CPR Certification issued by an authorized agency within six months of employment. Recommended - Possession of Board Certification from the National Board of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct assessments to determine students’ functional abilities in areas such as fine motor skills, visual-motor integration, sensory processing, self-regulation, activities of daily living, motor planning, postural stability, feeding, and the need for environmental adaptations or assistive devices; prepare comprehensive written reports and document progress toward goals. Provide direct and consultative occupational therapy services to students based on assessment results and identified needs; deliver services individually or in groups in accordance with district procedures and established processes. Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy treatment plans and IEP goals, and provide services consistent with each student’s IEP and/or treatment plan; participate in IEP team meetings to present assessment results, recommend goals, and support educational planning. Plan, organize, and prepare therapy sessions, including maintaining and setting up equipment, developing materials, and ensuring safe and appropriate learning environments; maintain accurate records of services, progress notes, and data to monitor student outcomes. Collaborate with teachers, service providers, and other team members to coordinate scheduling, support instructional planning, and assist in determining appropriate student assignments and supports. Provide training, education, and support to families and staff, including recommendations for adaptive strategies; identify, design, recommend, and demonstrate the use of adaptive or assistive equipment to support student access and participation. Maintain program compliance by implementing services in accordance with applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and district policies. Perform other related duties as assigned. OTHER DUTIES: Attend department and/or in-service meetings, training programs and parent conferences as assigned. Performs administrative tasks and activities related to the MAA claiming process and service documentation. Knowledge of: Child development and developmental disabilities, diagnosis, syndromes and applicable treatment techniques, including motor and reflex development.. Principles, methods, and techniques of occupational therapy, including current best practices for children and adolescents. Proper documentation and recordkeeping for compliance with IEP and therapy reporting requirements. Medical, educational and other community resources and agencies. Appropriate instructional materials for students. Proper lifting techniques. Safe and appropriate use of adaptive equipment and assistive technology. Basic record-keeping techniques. Analytical, organization, and human relation skills. Oral and written communication skills, including correct English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Ability to: Observe and assess fine and gross motor development, perceptual development, self-help, oral motor development and sensory processing. Develop and conduct sensory‑motor focused intervention. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing regarding technical implementation. Develop and conduct parent/guardian interviews. Assist students with meeting IEP goals and objectives. Work with diverse racial, ethnic, religious, familial, and socio‑economic groups. Demonstrate an understanding, patient and receptive attitude toward special education students. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Travel to various sites in order to support students. Understand and work within scope of authority. Maintain confidentiality. Plan and organize work.
