Summary This position is located at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee,Wisconsin, in the Medical Information Systems Division, Benefits Management Program,Facility Access Section. Responsibilities VA Careers - Lead Medical Support Assistant: The Lead MSA monitors and makes work assignments, provides input on performance, resolves daily workplace issues, and maintains efficient workflow. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to: Major Responsibilities: assuring coverage of all areas of responsibility; conducting ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work; ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments; providing guidance to staff members, to include changes in policies and procedures; distributing and balancing workload; creating and maintaining employee work schedules;. orienting and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees; Incumbent performs other duties as assigned. ensuring all training requirements are met; organizing the work structure of his/her assigned areas; and acting as a liaison between MSA and staff to resolve day to day conflicts. Grade Determinations:GS-6 level Experience : Must have at least (1) one full year of experience that is directly related to the duties of a Medical Support Assistant and that equips you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, this experience must be equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5). For this position, experience includes, but is not limited to: scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointments and/or consults; entering no-show information; monitoring the electronic wait list; preparing for clinic visits; monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility; ensuring encounter forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit; verifying and updating demographics and insurance information; processing emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals; and performing basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage (i.e., TRICARE, sharing agreements, etc.). AND Demonstrate knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Candidates Must Demonstrate: KSA- 1 Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines KSA- 2 Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect, ensuring compliance with established policies and regulations. KSA-3 Ability to provide staff development and training KSA-4 Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage priorities, and coordinate with staff in the unit in order to complete duties in an accurate and timely manner. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work.
