POSITION OPENING Elementary Dean of Students/Counselor Are you a passionate educator and student advocate who believes that strong relationships, proactive support, and a positive school culture are the foundation for student success? Hemlock Public School District is excited to welcome a dedicated Dean of Students / School Counselor to join our Huskie Pack at K.C. Ling Elementary and make a lasting impact on the lives of our young learners. Required Qualifications: Valid Michigan School Counselor Certification or School Counselor License Bachelor’s Degree in School Counseling, Educational Leadership, Student Services, or a related field preferred Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred Knowledge of social-emotional learning, restorative practices, behavior support systems, and student intervention strategies Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered practices A successful candidate will be able to: Cultivate a Culture of Belonging and Growth: Help create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environment where every student feels valued, connected, and empowered to succeed. Champion Student Success: Provide individual and small-group counseling services that support students' academic achievement, social-emotional development, problem-solving skills, and overall well-being. Promote Positive Student Behavior: Partner with students, staff, and families to implement restorative practices, positive behavior supports, and proactive interventions that foster student growth and accountability. Support Attendance and Student Engagement: Monitor attendance patterns, identify barriers to success, and collaborate with families and community partners to ensure students remain engaged and connected to school. Build Strong Relationships: Develop meaningful connections with students, families, teachers, and staff while serving as a trusted advocate and resource for the school community. Lead Student Support Efforts: Collaborate with teachers, intervention teams, and administrators to identify student needs, coordinate supports, and implement effective strategies for academic, behavioral, and social-emotional success. Use Data to Drive Student Outcomes: Analyze behavioral, attendance, and student support data to identify trends, measure effectiveness of interventions, and develop strategies that promote positive outcomes for all students. Support a Positive School Climate: Take an active role in creating a school culture focused on respect, responsibility, kindness, and student leadership through schoolwide initiatives and programming.
