Upper School Physics Faculty

Glenelg Country School (GCS) is an independent day school serving students age 2 – grade 12. Our mission is to cultivate a diverse community of learners who discover, contribute, thrive, and excel. These principles serve as a foundation for all we do. The school seeks two Upper School Science educators to teach Physics for the 2026-2027 school year. The teaching assignments will include multiple sections of Physics, including AP Physics 1 and AP Physics C (transitioning to AP Physics 2 in 2027-2028), depending on the best fit for each teacher. The GCS Science department is noted for its extensive elective offerings, so there will be opportunities to teach classes beyond Physics. There are currently openings in Explorations of Artificial Intelligence, co‑taught with the Director of Academic Technology, and in Space Science and Technology and Observational Astronomy. Additional electives offered by the successful candidates may be added. The school has its own observatory, so experience in astronomy and telescope maintenance will be helpful, as will be interest in coaching Robotics. The successful candidate will be comfortable teaching a wide range of learners, differentiating instruction among groups of students with varying knowledge and skills and integrating digital technologies into teaching. A love of working with adolescents in and out of the classroom and a desire to play a significant role in the life of a school are essential. GCS is a thriving community built on the holistic development of its students. All full‑time Upper School teachers contribute to clubs and enrichment activities and advise a group of eight to ten students for their entire Upper School career. Essential functions Provide engaging instruction in Physics. Implement teaching strategies, activities, and approaches to learning. Collaborate with other teachers on Physics curriculum and departmental course of study. Assess and evaluate student progress. Supervise student behavior. Develop a sense of partnership with and among students. Exercise good judgement and maturity. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Needs A B.A. or B.S. in physics, science, or a related field is required. Experience working with middle or high school students is a significant advantage.
