Job Title: General Production Worker Job Description

This role supports the production of precision metallic seals used in aerospace and other high-performance applications. You will operate specialized equipment, perform basic quality checks, and handle small metal components in a clean, low-stress, and highly repetitive manufacturing environment. The position offers opportunities to grow into more advanced machine operation, welding, quality inspection, and other technical roles.

Responsibilities

• Operate roll formers and polishing lathes to create metal seals, most of which are small and fit in the hand.
• Load sheet metal bands onto roll-former machines, use a foot pump to run the machine, and form metal into circular seals.
• Inspect parts as they are manufactured, maintaining a cycle time of approximately 10 seconds per part and repeating the process consistently.
• Polish seals using sandpaper, either by hand or with a polishing machine, to achieve the required finish.
• Support the shearing department by cutting metal for welders as needed.
• For larger seals (up to approximately 8 feet in diameter), roll and form seals, take precise measurements using pi-tape and calipers, and ensure parts meet tight tolerances.
• Assist with machine setup and tool adjustments for large seal production, using math skills to calculate results down to the thousandth decimal place.
• Operate semi-automatic TIG welding equipment to weld thin strips of sheet metal into metal bands, aligning seams, initiating the weld cycle, and repeating the process.
• Work primarily in a seated position while TIG welding, maintaining focus and attention to detail in a more independent and isolated setting.
• Perform quality inspections on welds and finished parts, checking for defects such as weld blow-out and verifying dimensions and thickness.
• Use inspection tools including 10x magnifier loupes, depth gauges, micrometers, and calipers to confirm products meet specifications.
• Read job travelers and work orders to determine inspection and production requirements and provide appropriate approval stamps.
• Enter inspection and production data into Microsoft Excel and other basic computer systems as required.
• Follow written instructions carefully to avoid over-processing parts, such as over-sanding components that require only a light polish.
• Identify and report defects or process issues early to prevent incorrect batches of seals from being produced.
• Handle and manipulate small parts throughout the shift, using hands and fingers for fine, repetitive tasks.
• Work independently, manage your own workflow, and take ownership of the production process without constant direction.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety and quality procedures in a manufacturing environment.

Essential Skills

• Prior manufacturing, production, assembly, or general labor experience, especially for more advanced machine operator levels.
• Aptitude for math, including the ability to perform basic calculations and work with measurements down to the thousandth decimal place for advanced roles.
• Experience using measuring tools such as calipers, pi-tapes, micrometers, depth gauges, and other precision instruments.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions, work orders, and job travelers accurately and consistently.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify defects, fine details, and potential quality issues in small parts and welds.
• Comfort working with extremely repetitive tasks, performing the same process repeatedly throughout the day.
• Ability to manipulate and handle small parts for extended periods, using hands and fingers for fine, repetitive motions.
• Capability to work independently, manage tasks without constant supervision, and take ownership of the process.
• Basic computer skills, including the ability to perform data entry and use Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment or performing inspections.
• Ability to see fine details and small defects, supported by bi-annual eye exams and vision tests required for quality inspection and control.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior production or manufacturing experience is preferred for more advanced machine operator roles, especially when working with large seals.
• Experience with TIG welding or operating semi-automatic welding equipment is beneficial for welding-related responsibilities.
• Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing standards such as AS9100 and ISO 9001 is preferred for quality inspection roles.
• Interest in working with products used in aerospace applications such as jets, rockets, and airplanes.
• Comfort working in a light-duty manufacturing environment where most tasks are seated and involve minimal lifting (generally 5–10 pounds).
• Willingness to perform highly repetitive work and maintain consistent quality over time.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate with other machine operators and production staff while maintaining focus on individual tasks.
• Openness to cross-training in areas such as inventory, welding, CNC machining, and quality inspection as opportunities arise.

Work Environment

The facility specializes in engineered metallic seals used in jet engines and other high-performance applications such as lasers, drilling equipment, and environments involving extreme temperatures, pressures, or oxygen-sensitive conditions. Production takes place across three adjacent buildings: one focused on high-quantity batch parts and another dedicated to more customized, one-off seals made to specific customer requirements. The work environment is very clean, well lit, and primarily light duty, with most positions being seated and requiring only minimal lifting, typically between 5 and 10 pounds. Employees often work near other machine operators and may socialize while still maintaining productivity, and the use of headphones is generally allowed, contributing to a low-stress atmosphere with minimal micromanagement. Bi-annual eye exams and vision tests are part of the standard practice to ensure employees can detect fine defects and maintain high quality standards. Equipment in use includes roll formers, polishing lathes, shearing machines, semi-automatic TIG welders, and a range of precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, pi-tapes, and magnifier loupes. The work is extremely repetitive, involving consistent processes throughout the day, and the dress code aligns with typical light manufacturing expectations, emphasizing safety, cleanliness, and practicality for handling small metal parts and operating machinery.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Spokane Valley, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.25 - $18.25/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
