Meadowlark Theater Intern

Job Title: Meadowlark Theater Intern Location: Omaha Zoo – Omaha, NE 68107 Position Type: Seasonal Hours: Up to 24 hours per week for 12 weeks Pay: $15.00 per hour Schedule: Fall session September22–December14,2026 Responsibilities Prepare and offer approved diets to the specimens in the Meadowlark Theater collections. Prepare, offer, and log approved enrichment in accordance with the animal’s life strategy plan. Assist in assessing the welfare of the specimens in the Meadowlark Theater collections. Assist with production of free‑flighted programs multiple times daily (in season). Assist in monitoring and recording weights and observing and recording behaviors. Maintain amphitheater and enclosure standards for aesthetics and hygiene. Maintain behind‑the‑scenes areas and other holding areas for aesthetics and hygiene standards according to USDA and AZA regulations. Assist with exhibit/stage maintenance, dismantling, and refurnishing. Other duties may be assigned. Develop, work on, and present an internship project aligned with the research needs of animal care staff in the Interactive Animal Programs Department. Attend weekly professional development sessions. Complete learning goals in internship binder. Possess effective time‑management skills for working in a fast‑paced and flexible work environment. Communicate frequently and professionally with supervisor and team members. Work well with others and be able to work independently. Qualifications Willingness to work weekends and holidays. Availability to work up to 24 hours per week and attend weekly afternoon professional development sessions. Pass pre‑employment background check and drug screening. Experience with exotic animals is desirable but not required; prior direct experience with exotic animals in schools, aquariums, nature centers, or conservation operations will be considered. Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a college or university is preferred. Motivation to continue expanding knowledge of program animals and guest interaction. Physical Demands Climbing ladders and lifting heavy objects (up to 50 pounds or more). Exposure to significant levels of heat, cold, and moisture. Potential contact with chemicals and minor physical hazards such as cuts, bruises, and burns. Public Interaction Frequent interaction with the public throughout the internship. Expected to exhibit professionalism and exceptional customer service at all times. May be asked to engage in public speaking opportunities, including informal educational presentations.
