Position Overview #139529 Patient Service Representative - Express Care Department: COMM CARE EXPRESS CARE Work Schedule: Rotating 11-Hour Shifts, Sunday-Saturday Appointment Type: Career Appointment Percent: 95% Union: EX Contract Total Openings: 1 Hiring Pay Scale: $27.49 - $34.17 / Hour Annual Full Pay Range: $57,399 - $71,347 (prorated for less than 100% appointment) Pay Transparency Act: Full range may be broader than budgeted Application Details Filing Deadline: Thu 5/28/2026 Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Practice Manager, the Patient Service Representative provides front desk support by performing a variety of clerical and receptionist duties in support of daily patient services within clinical areas: greets patients, check‑in and check‑out procedures, appointment scheduling, insurance, and authorization verification, updating patient demographics, audit billing documents, disposition appointments, co‑pay collection, managing/monitoring petty cash drawer, and working closely with Center physicians, nurses, staff and other UCSD departments. Other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Three (3) years of related front desk, patient‑facing administrative experience within a large, complex healthcare setting. Strong knowledge of third‑party payors, including federal, state, and private health plans. Ability to work in an interactive environment and possess excellent customer service skills, both in person and over the phone. Demonstrated computer skills/ability to work between multiple systems during calls. Have excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Have strong organizational skills with demonstrated, independent ability to set priorities, handle deadlines, and manage conflicting demands with limited supervision. Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment, and accountability. Maintaining strict confidentiality with demonstrated experience applying good judgment and discretion is required. Be a self‑starter who is accountable and requires minimal direction and supervision; a person who is open to new ideas; and a creative and flexible individual who is comfortable working in a large, complex organization. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a fast‑paced, multi‑specialty clinic. Urgent (walk‑in clinic) or Primary Care experience. Authorization and registration experience. Epic experience. Special Conditions Must be able to work various hours based on business needs; possible overtime. Must be willing and able to float to other locations as requested.
