Property Claims Specialist Field II - CAT/Spikes Team

Position Summary If you’re passionate about helping people restore their lives when unexpected events happen to their homes and providing the best customer experience, our Mercury Insurance Property Claims team could be the place for you. Upon completion of the training program, ideal candidates will transition into a property claims field adjusting position traveling to loss sites damaged by fire, water, weather, or other unexpected events. Some claims may also be handled via virtual technology and/or collaboration with vendors. The Property Claims Field Adjuster II will learn to apply knowledge of current company policies, applicable regulatory standards, and procedures to investigate, evaluate, and settle moderate homeowner’s property claims efficiently, preventing unnecessary expense to the company and policyholders while delivering exceptional customer service. Extended hours may be required during catastrophes or spikes in claims volume. Flexibility to travel on short notice—up to 50% of the time—and the ability to be on call are required. If selected for this role, in addition to a 10% increase to your base hourly rate, the company will add a temporary incentive of 5% while on the CAT/Spike Team, for a total incentive of 15%. The temporary incentive amount is reviewed annually, and the company reserves the right to abandon, amend, or modify it at any time. Geo‑Salary Information State-specific pay scales for this role are as follows:

  • 76,829 to $142,213 (NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)
  • 69,845 to $129,284 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)
  • 62,860 to $116,356 (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)
In CA: Typical hiring range is $98,568.90 to $120,473.10 In addition, a base salary of $76,829–$142,213 per year is expected, varying with experience, skills, and location. Responsibilities Investigate and resolve homeowner claims of moderate complexity in a timely and efficient manner. Document findings with photographs, measurements, recorded interviews, and write a repair estimate. Perform field inspections at least 50% of the work time (company car provided). Handle virtual claims using imagery and advanced video technology. Compare facts gathered during the investigation against the policy to determine coverage. Establish reserve amounts within prescribed settlement authority limits and negotiate settlements; refer claims exceeding personal authority limits to a supervisor. Communicate with insureds and representatives in a timely, professional manner to ensure customer satisfaction. Prioritize own responsibilities and manage claims workload effectively, monitoring progress and expenses. Direct, monitor, and review files handled by independent adjusters, as required. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver’s license required. Ability to obtain state‑specific property claims licensing, as required. Successful completion of a formal property claims training program (in‑person, virtual, or hybrid). Experience Prior experience using estimating software such as Xactimate. Experience in a related field: property claims, customer service, construction, restoration, or mitigation. Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal. Bilingualism or prior military experience is a plus. 3‑5+ years of equivalent industry experience preferred. Knowledge and Skills As a Property Claims Field Adjuster II, you will: Work independently with limited supervision to investigate, evaluate, write damage estimates, negotiate, and resolve property claims. Maintain a passion for outstanding customer service. Make quality decisions based on analysis, experience, and judgment, including negotiation. Adapt to new technology and business tools. Transition seamlessly between physical, video, or photo inspections to write damage estimates. Perform additional duties such as climbing ladders to inspect roofing or attic space and inspecting crawl spaces. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Organize, manage time, and prioritize to handle varying workloads due to seasonal volume changes and catastrophes. Work flexible shifts and be willing to work overtime as needs arise.
