Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN General)

Administers nursing care within the scope of practice under the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist, or chiropractor. Administers oxygen, applies sterile dressings, inserts catheters, reinserts gastrotomy tubes, suctions, and irrigates wounds. Gives enemas and assists physicians with physical exams, treatments, and laboratory tests. Provides emergency assistance by administering first aid, performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, and restraining patients as necessary. Administers controlled and non-controlled medications in various forms including oral, rectal, topical, and injectable. Maintains medication accountability records and documents patient conditions, treatment responses, and patient behavior. Prepares and maintains related reports and records, including unusual incident reports and patient records. Provides general nursing care and direct assistance to patients with daily living activities and medical appointments. Repositions patients, responds to patient alarms, and assists with recreational activities. Provides orientation, training, and work direction to lower-level direct care staff. Orders medication and medical supplies, cleans the nursing station and medication area, and performs clerical tasks. Attends various meetings as assigned, including staff conferences and interdisciplinary team meetings. Demonstrates knowledge of skilled licensed practical nursing procedures, pharmacology, patient care, first aid, and CPR. Maintains knowledge of HIPAA regulations, human relations, inventory control, and employee training and development. Skilled in the use of medical equipment.
