Testing Deadline July 20, 2026. Requirements Written examination – required. Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) – required at time of hire. 18 years of age to take the exam; 21 years at time of hire (unless exempt under IL 5/10-2.1-6, chapter 65). High school graduate or GED – required. Driver’s license – required. No adult felony convictions at any time. College requirement – none. Veterans Preference Points – required. Other Preference Points – detailed below. Preference Points Experience Preference Points (maximum 5 points): Paid‑on‑call or part‑time certified Firefighter II, Firefighter III, EMT‑B, or EMT‑P for the District – one point for each 6 months of service, up to 5 points. Full‑time certified firefighters or paramedics elsewhere – one point for each year of service, up to 5 points. No points for private‑employer service under contract with another district. Veteran’s Preference Points (maximum 5 points): Active military service for at least one year and honorable discharge or current inactive/reserve status – five points. Educational Preference Points (maximum 2.5 points): Associate’s degree in fire service or emergency medical services, or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution – 2.5 points. Residency Preference Points (maximum 2.5 points, per IL 705/16.06b(h)(6)): Maintained principal residence within the District for 24 months prior to application – 2.5 points. Certification Firefighter II candidates meeting all requirements, including Paramedic, will attend a Fire Academy to obtain Basic Operations Firefighter Certification through the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
