About the Position

Job Title: Surgical Technologist Profession: Nursing Specialty: Surgical Technologist, Scrub Technologist, OR Tech Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 32 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Licensed as a Surgical Technologist in the state required. Certifications: BLS by American Heart Association. Must-Have: Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist. Description: Assists during surgical procedures by ensuring and maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field. Provides instrumentation as needed to the surgical team. Participates in unit activities to assure high levels of quality related to patient care. Functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Possesses expertise in sterile and aseptic technique and combines knowledge of human anatomy and surgical procedures with implementation of tools and technologies in invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Maintains and checks all items for proper packaging, processing, moisture, seal and packaging integrity, sterile indicator if present, and expiration dates. Ensures that the operating room environment is safe, equipment functions properly, and operative procedures are conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Monitors sterile field for events that may contaminate, interfere with, or alter the field and initiates or notifies of need for corrective action under supervision. Works towards or maintains competency with Tier 1 surgical cases. Maintains flexibility while contributing to the individualized delivery of care within the scope of practice. Models effective, timely communication with the perioperative team, including full participation in Briefings and Debriefings. Assists team in patient transports, room turnovers, and room preparation. Models professional behavior by maintaining currency in new technologies and procedures, including instrumentation and equipment. Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. Role models the principles of a Just Culture. Performs other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.
