Position Summary

The Deli Clerk is responsible for providing friendly, efficient customer service while preparing, slicing, weighing, packaging, and serving deli products in accordance with Pino’s standards. This position also helps maintain a clean, organized, safe, and sanitary work environment and assists with the daily operation of the deli department.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, courteous, and prompt customer service.
• Greet customers, answer questions, take orders, and assist customers with product selections.
• Slice deli meats and cheeses according to customer specifications.
• Properly weigh, package, label, and price deli products.
• Prepare sandwiches, prepared foods, platters, catering orders, and other specialty orders as assigned.
• Safely operate deli slicers, scales, microwaves, knives, cutting tools, and other department equipment.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and proper food-handling procedures.
• Maintain Pino’s standards for product quality, freshness, presentation, and cleanliness.
• Monitor products for freshness, proper temperature, quality, and appearance.
• Restock deli cases, displays, workstations, packaging supplies, and other department items as needed.
• Maintain clean and organized counters, equipment, floors, refrigerators, display cases, and work areas throughout the shift.
• Properly wrap, label, store, and refrigerate meats, cheeses, prepared foods, and other products at the end of the day.
• Assist with opening and/or closing procedures as scheduled.
• Promote featured, seasonal, and new products when directed by management.
• Assist with catering orders, grocery orders, and deliveries when required.
• Work cooperatively with coworkers and other departments to ensure efficient store operations.
• Follow company policies regarding uniforms, personal hygiene, food safety, attendance, and workplace conduct.
• Maintain appropriate professional interaction with customers and coworkers.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by a Manager or Supervisor.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and/or walk for the majority of the scheduled shift.
• Ability to bend, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull while performing regular job duties.
• Ability to lift and carry at least 20 pounds , with heavier lifting as needed with assistance.
• Ability to safely operate deli equipment and work around knives, slicers, hot equipment, refrigerated areas, and food-preparation surfaces.
• Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements associated with slicing, cutting, packaging, and food preparation.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age due to operation of deli slicing and cutting equipment.
• Friendly, dependable, and customer-service oriented.
• Ability to communicate clearly with customers, coworkers, and management.
• Ability to accurately read, write, and prepare customer orders.
• Ability to follow instructions and established recipes, procedures, and food-safety standards.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
• Must maintain dependable attendance and arrive ready to work at the scheduled start time.
• Must comply with company policies regarding personal cell phone use while working.
• Previous deli, food-service, grocery, or customer-service experience is preferred but not required.

Deli Clerks are expected to create a welcoming experience for every customer. Employees should remain attentive to customers, acknowledge customers promptly, communicate respectfully, and make every reasonable effort to provide accurate and efficient service.

Food Safety & Cleanliness

All Deli Clerks are responsible for maintaining a sanitary food-preparation environment. This includes proper handwashing, glove use, cleaning and sanitizing equipment and surfaces, preventing cross-contamination, properly storing food, and following all applicable company and health department requirements.
