Patient Registration Representative- Sat and Sun 7pm-7am-PRN- Admitting Er

Patient Registration Representative – Sat & Sun 7 pm – 7 am (PRN) Location: DHR Health, Edinburg, TX (Admitting ER) Position Summary The Patient Registration Representative performs general registration functions, including appointment scheduling, collection of co‑pays, co‑insurance, deductibles, and verification of insurance coverage. The role requires accurate capture of patient demographics, insurance details, and financial information, as well as obtaining referral, pre‑authorization, and pre‑certification approvals from insurance companies and physician offices. Qualifications & Education High School Diploma or GED required. Computer skills required; proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. Good written and verbal communication skills. Bilingual: English/Spanish. One (1) year of related customer service experience. Reasoning ability and good independent judgment. Strong customer service skills and ability to work with frequent interruptions. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred; ability to communicate in both Spanish and English strongly preferred. Responsibilities Promote the facility mission, vision, and values by effectively communicating them to others. Demonstrate high‑quality service excellence with positive customer service and telephone etiquette. Ensure patient confidentiality requirements are met in accordance with HIPAA policies. Interview patients or responsible parties to obtain accurate demographic information. Obtain and review doctor’s orders for appropriate signature, date, diagnosis, and admission status prior to registration. Communicate with doctor’s offices to obtain missing orders or additional diagnoses. Review and confirm patient’s financial information, including insurance carrier, benefit details, policy number, and group information. Identify appropriate coordination of benefits for insurance carriers. Utilize online verification systems (e.g., TMHP, FISS, Availity) for eligibility. Explain rates, estimate charges, and hospital policies regarding up‑front collections. Open and close cash batches, using approved naming guidelines. Collect deductibles, co‑pays, unpaid balances, and co‑insurance payments, providing patients with receipts. Determine financial status and refer patients for financial screening as appropriate. Adhere to Administration on‑call schedule when Financial Counselor is off duty. Perform appointment scheduling functions and register patients for ancillary services. Initiate order management to enter orders as needed. Review records from prior patient visits to determine status of unpaid balances. Handle counter payments from patient statements. Ensure referral, pre‑authorization, and pre‑certification requirements are met. Accurately complete the Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) form. Initiate Pathway Compliance Advisor to determine if an ABN is required for services identified as not medically necessary. Provide patients with the Medicare Important Message for all Medicare inpatient admissions. Ensure patients are provided with Conditions of Admission forms and obtain signatures. Scan photo ID, insurance cards, doctor’s orders into RegAssist. Utilize Form Fast to print or reprint forms and labels. Verify and place appropriate wrist bracelets on patients with required identifiers. Accurately reconcile cash drawer, create deposits, and adhere to security measures. Complete necessary reports and patient logs daily. Assemble patient charts in proper order for the next day’s schedule. Communicate scheduled case procedures to various departments and personnel. Consistently adhere to the doctors’ recommended dress policy. Perform other duties as assigned. Physical & Work‑Environment Requirements Light/moderate lifting up to 20 lbs from floor to shoulder height. Standing, walking, and light/moderate carrying up to 20 lbs. Ability to kneel, repeat bending, pull hand‑over‑hand, push, and twist. Climbing ladders – not required. Operating office equipment and mechanical equipment; some exposure to cleaning agents and malodorous body fluids. Requires use of personal vision; must read, write, and comprehend written/verbal communication. Ability to handle stress and use a personal vehicle if required. OSHA Category III.
