CNC Laser Systems Field Engineer

Department: Laser Service

Location: Remote (U.S.) with regular travel

A day in the field

Monday morning, you hit the road with a plan: a regional customer has a Mitsubishi laser cutting center showing intermittent alignment faults. By late morning, you’ve reviewed logs, probed I/O, and tracked the issue to a sensor drift. You dial in the adjustment, verify cut quality, document the resolution, and walk the team through what went wrong and how to prevent it. Midweek brings a scheduled preventive maintenance visit with a full mechanical inspection—dismantle, clean, rebuild, and calibrate. On Thursday, you support another customer by phone, guiding them through safe diagnostics to minimize downtime until you arrive. By Friday afternoon, expenses are submitted, tools are checked in, and you’re home for the weekend.

What you’ll own

• On-site diagnosis, repair, and optimization of Mitsubishi laser cutting machinery—mechanical, electrical, and controls.
• Hands-on inspections, including dismantling, rebuilding, adjustment, and alignment of components and subsystems.
• Remote troubleshooting by phone when feasible to expedite uptime.
• Clear customer communication on findings, timelines, and outcomes.
• Interpretation of schematics, wiring and block diagrams to inform accurate fixes.
• Complete, detailed service reports and timely expense submissions.
• Care and stewardship of company tools, test gear, and service vehicles.
• Additional tasks that enhance customer satisfaction and team operations.

Travel rhythm & training

Travel is typically Monday–Friday with most trips returning home by Friday evening. Work is primarily regional with occasional nationwide or international assignments. You’ll receive comprehensive training to build a long-term career in advanced machinery and manufacturing technology.

What you bring

• Background in machining, manufacturing processes, or industrial equipment environments.
• Skill with diagnostic and precision tools: voltmeters/multimeters, calipers, micrometers, dial indicators.
• Comfort with Windows-based PCs and service software.
• Strong written and verbal communication; customer-facing confidence.
• Comfort working at heights when required.
• Valid driver’s license and a record suitable for driving on company business.
• Willingness to travel extensively Monday–Friday.

Preferred (not required)

• Associate degree or technical certification in electronics, mechanics, mechatronics, or similar.
• Proven electromechanical troubleshooting capability.
• Fluency reading manuals, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Experience with electrical test equipment (e.g., voltmeter, oscilloscope).
• Experience with indicators, micrometers, feeler gauges, and related precision tools.

Environment & physical demands

• Customer facilities (indoor industrial settings) with varying temperatures and noise.
• Frequent travel and driving using a personal vehicle or company-approved rental; mileage or rental reimbursed per policy.
• Occasional overtime.
• Safe operation of a motor vehicle is required.
• Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, standing, and fine manual work.
• Lift/carry up to 20 lbs. regularly; occasionally up to 50 lbs.
• Push/pull equipment up to 50 lbs.; heavier moves may use carts or mechanical aids.
• Good visual acuity, including color recognition.
