Payroll Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist for a temp-to-hire opportunity in the La Canada Flintridge/Pasadena area. This on-site role supports payroll operations within an industrial facilities and infrastructure construction environment and is ideal for someone with payroll, administrative, or data entry experience who enjoys accuracy, problem-solving, and employee support.

Key Responsibilities

- Scan, review, and process payroll-related mail through the departmental ticketing system according to established procedures.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries submitted through the ticketing system, payroll customer service line, and voicemail.
- Research, resolve, document, and route payroll tickets accurately while escalating complex or sensitive issues as needed.
- Perform payroll-related data entry with strong accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality.
- Communicate payroll information clearly and professionally to help employees understand payroll processes and issue resolutions.
- Support the payroll team during peak payroll cycles, absences, or high-volume periods to maintain service continuity.

Compensation and Benefits

- Pay rate: $29 to $33 per hour, depending on experience.
- Employment type: Temp-to-hire.
- Schedule: On-site, Monday through Friday.
- Location: Pasadena

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Support payroll operations through ticket management, documentation, mail processing, and accurate data entry.
- Provide frontline employee payroll support through written and verbal communication channels.
- Research and resolve payroll inquiries while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Assist the payroll team during high-volume periods to ensure timely service and accurate processing.

- 1 to 2 years of payroll, administrative, customer service, or data entry experience preferred.
- Experience working with payroll systems, HR systems, or enterprise software; JD Edwards experience is strongly relevant.
- Strong data entry accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage confidential employee and payroll information with discretion.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills with a professional customer service approach.
- Strong organization, follow-through, and ability to manage multiple inquiries or tickets in a deadline-driven environment.
- Dependable, team-oriented, and eager to grow within payroll and benefits administration.

Preferred Qualifications

- Prior payroll support experience in a construction, industrial, facilities, infrastructure, or similar environment.
- Experience using JD Edwards for payroll or employee data processing.
- Familiarity with ticketing systems, case management tools, or shared payroll inbox workflows.
- Experience handling employee payroll inquiries by phone, voicemail, or written request.
