Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval determines award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) through the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after reviewing the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements United States citizenship. Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from a VA‑approved school. Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Residency training: completion of an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification, or one year of post‑medical‑school training followed by two years of independent practice, or non‑U.S. residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent U.S. practice (fellowships creditable). Board certified or board eligible. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements: able to perform all activities of the position without restriction. This position is in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) – Veterans Health Administration (VHA) – Mid‑Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6) – Fayetteville VA Coastal Health Care System (FVACHCS) – and the Primary Care Service Line (PCSL). The successful candidate will serve as a Primary Care Physician, ensuring quality and timeliness of services, customer satisfaction, and compliance with accrediting standards (Joint Commission, Inspector General's Combined Assessment Program). Responsible for appropriate use of resources and maintaining state‑of‑the‑art care standards. Collaborates with other services as appropriate and leads a multidisciplinary health care team to provide Primary Care to Veterans enrolled in the team. Demonstrates advanced competencies in assessing the physical and psychosocial status of patients and families, promotes preventive health measures, and manages acute and chronic conditions of assigned and team‑assigned patients. Provides comprehensive assessment, diagnostic work‑up, and clinic intervention for primary care patients, both scheduled and unscheduled Veterans. Initiates diagnosis, referrals, and consultations to other clinical services. Orders and evaluates diagnostic tests, recommends treatment, and monitors treatment effectiveness. Manages medication orders and therapeutic plans, including changes as needed. Involves patients and families in care planning and goal setting. Documents health assessments, treatment decisions, care plans, and outcomes in the electronic comprehensive patient record system (CPRS) on the day of the encounter. Responds to computerized alerts and health line requests within recommended time periods as per policy. Follows performance measurement guidelines, completes clinical reminders in CPRS, and meets prescription entry, formulary, and customer service standards. Provides total rewards package, including competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases, 50–55 days of paid time off (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 federal holidays, and up to 5 days for CME), traditional federal pension, 401(k) with up to 5% contributions, federal health, vision, dental, and life insurance, and normal malpractice coverage.
