Senior Preconstruction Manager

Top ENR general contractor is seeking a Senior Preconstruction Manager to join its Birmingham, Alabama team. This is a high-impact opportunity to take ownership of complex preconstruction efforts, leading projects from early conceptual planning and budgeting through estimating, procurement, and GMP development. The Senior Preconstruction Manager will work closely with clients, architects, subcontractors, operations, and senior leadership, playing a key role in shaping project strategy and supporting the company's continued growth. The business has a strong national presence and a diverse portfolio of complex projects across Food and Beverage, Distribution, Industrial, Manufacturing, and Mission Critical markets. With a strong reputation for delivering technically challenging projects and a growing pipeline across the Southeast, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced preconstruction professional looking to take on a senior, high-visibility role. Key Responsibilities: Lead preconstruction and estimating efforts from conceptual design through GMP. Develop detailed budgets, estimates, and cost models for complex commercial construction projects. Provide strategic input on project feasibility, constructability, value engineering, and overall project approach. Lead subcontractor outreach, bid solicitation, scope review, leveling, and buyout strategy. Partner with clients, architects, consultants, and internal operations teams throughout the preconstruction process. Participate in client presentations, interviews, project pursuits, and business development efforts. Collaborate with senior leadership on pursuit strategy, project selection, and go/no-go decisions. Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost optimization while maintaining project quality and client objectives. Support the transition from preconstruction into project execution, ensuring budgets, scopes, and expectations are clearly communicated. Mentor and support junior estimating and preconstruction professionals as the team continues to grow. Qualifications: Proven experience in commercial construction estimating and/or preconstruction. Strong background managing complex projects across one or more major construction sectors. Strong understanding of conceptual estimating, cost modelling, budgeting, and GMP development. Experience working directly with clients, design teams, subcontractors, and project operations. Ability to lead complex pursuits and manage multiple projects through the preconstruction lifecycle. Strong communication, organizational, and negotiation skills. Ability to take ownership, operate independently, and collaborate effectively with senior leadership.
