Position Summary

The Solutions Architect owns the technical direction of the firm’s applications and data platform. The role combines regular hands-on development with architectural leadership: setting the technology roadmap, driving modernization of legacy systems, making platform and vendor decisions, and mentoring the development team. The Architect is expected to operate effectively in our current on-premises environment while leading a deliberate, multi-year evolution toward cloud, API-first integration, and modern data practices.

Position Summary

The Solutions Architect owns the technical direction of the firm’s applications and data platform. The role combines regular hands-on development with architectural leadership: setting the technology roadmap, driving modernization of legacy systems, making platform and vendor decisions, and mentoring the development team. The Architect is expected to operate effectively in our current on-premises environment while leading a deliberate, multi-year evolution toward cloud, API-first integration, and modern data practices.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical advisor to other systems team members to document systems processes and adhere to best practices and coding standards.
• Advise on future direction of the Development Team, staying abreast of and leveraging new tools and technologies when appropriate - including cloud platforms, API-first integration patterns, AI agents, and LLM-based automation tools.
• Research and analyze business requirements and recommend technical solutions.
• Perform technical implementations for projects including Software development; writing technical specifications; design and prototyping; vendor package installation; database and application migrations (including SQL Server version upgrades); data conversions; defect resolutions; ongoing maintenance and support; and technical training to other systems team members.
• Identify and help reconcile inherent conflicts between high-level objectives, systems architecture, and functional requirements in a timely manner.
• Review and interpret legacy application code to assist with application enhancements or support tasks.
• Lead the assessment, redesign, conversion, and decommissioning of legacy applications and databases; own the multi-year application modernization roadmap.
• Assist in the integration of external products or services.
• Troubleshoot and resolve SQL Agent job failures: diagnose root cause in stored procedures, apply fixes, and execute or rerun jobs to restore normal processing; provide operational support for the nightly AddVantage data cycle and on-demand refresh pipeline.
• Develop time estimates and report on project progress.
• Participate on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Act as development team lead on major applications initiatives.

Education And Experience

• BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience); 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years in an architecture or technical-lead capacity.
• Supervisory or technical-lead experience helpful. Demonstrated experience modernizing legacy applications in production environments required.
• Required work experience with the following technologies:
  • Java SE / Java 10+ (Swing for legacy maintenance; modern Java / Spring Boot for new development) using NetBeans, Eclipse, or IntelliJ
  • Microsoft SQL Server (2008 R2 through 2022) and T-SQL, including stored procedures, SQL Agent jobs, and database migration across compatibility levels.
  • C# / .NET (Core / .NET 8+) using Microsoft Visual Studio; modern .NET for new development, legacy .NET Framework for maintenance.
  • Reporting: Crystal Reports and Microsoft SSRS (maintenance and migration); Power BI or equivalent modern BI platform (target state)
  • Microsoft Windows OS, Office tools, and IIS server; cloud platform experience (Azure preferred); DevOps practices including Git, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code; REST API design and consumption; iPaaS / integration platform familiarity (Azure Logic Apps, MuleSoft, or similar) a plus.
• Broad experience in programming Graphical User Interfaces and software usability.
• Experience with SDLC methodologies and software configuration management tools.
• Experience with assisting in the installation and maintenance of PC vendor packages.
• Ability to evaluate and work directly with vendors to apply software change requests.

• Genuine interest in the Trust and financial services business as it relates to assigned technical projects. Financial services or trust industry experience is strongly preferred. Openness to evaluating and adopting AI agents, LLM-based tools, and intelligent automation where they create measurable business value.
