St. Francis House is seeking a mission-driven Executive Director to lead a long‑standing, faith‑based nonprofit organization dedicated to easing hardship and restoring dignity for those in need. Job Summary In support of the mission of St. Francis House, a long‑standing faith‑based nonprofit organization serving the community for over 50 years, the Executive Director provides visionary leadership and operational oversight to advance the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is responsible for the effective management of day‑to‑day operations, including leadership of staff and volunteers, oversight of programs and fundraising efforts, and stewardship of organizational resources. Working in close partnership with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director ensures the organization’s mission, values, and strategic goals are carried out with integrity, compassion, and accountability. Mission and Vision of the Organization St. Francis House offers hope for the future by providing basic necessities not provided by others. We exist to improve the lives of those in need. St. Francis House is a compassionate community that provides hope and dignity to those we serve in East Pierce County by providing resources free of charge to meet their immediate needs, nurturing meaningful connections between them, our donors and partners. Creating a circle of support on their path to self‑sufficiency and achievement of their long‑term potential. The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring that the mission is the guiding force behind programs and that the pursuit of mission fulfillment is evident in the internal and external actions, decisions, and publications of the organization. Strategic Implementation The primary job of the Executive Director is to implement the direction the Board of Directors sets for the organization. To do this, the Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors to drive the strategic planning process and set long‑ and short‑term goals. When these are in place, the Executive Director works with the team of staff and volunteers to construct action plans that will carry out each aspect of the strategy. Fundraising and Resource Development Responsible for ensuring that the organization has the necessary funding it needs to operate and grow. The Executive Director works in concert with the Board of Directors, the Director of Development and Marketing, grant writers, support staff, and others to obtain and retain the resources necessary to carry out the organization’s strategic plans, goals, objectives and mission. St. Francis House is a nonprofit [501(c)(3)] organization. Donor Relationships The Executive Director acts as a liaison between board members and others in the organization, such as clients, staff and volunteers. In collaboration with the Director of Development and Marketing, the Executive Director builds relationships with donors, including community members, representatives of corporate sponsors, suppliers, government and local authorities. The Executive Director works closely with partner organizations, which include other businesses and nonprofits that do similar work. In many ways, the Executive Director is the face of St. Francis House in the community. Finance Management With the assistance of our engaged CPA firm, the Executive Director manages the expenditure of the nonprofit’s funds according to the budget approved by the Board and the organization’s policies and procedures. Three main responsibilities: 1) Acquire funds; 2) Be a responsible steward of the funds; 3) Direct the allocation of funds. Human Resource Management Assures the organization has appropriate Human Resource systems in place to comply with all appropriate regulations and that the organization has the staff and volunteers needed to conduct its mission. Administrative Responsible for managing daily operations, finances, human resources, IT, and Board of Directors support to ensure the organization functions efficiently and achieves its mission. The Executive Director serves as a crucial link between staff, stakeholders, and the Board of Directors, while handling office logistics, fundraising, and data collection. Key Aspects of This Position Include Operational Management: Overseeing office procedures, maintaining records, and managing facilities. Strategic Support: Implementing organizational strategies, supporting the Board of Directors, and coordinating with leadership. Financial Administration: Management of tasks surrounding budgeting, accounts payable/receivable, donor tracking and accurate financial reporting. Resource Management: Assisting with recruiting, training, and managing personnel or volunteers. Minimum Qualifications Strong work ethic, unquestionable reputation for honesty and integrity. Strong problem‑solving, organizational, and project management skills. Ability to motivate and lead effectively, working with diverse teams of employees, clients, board members, donors, and visitors. Strong interpersonal skills equal to the need to work closely with Board members, major donors, staff, and the management team. Ability to think strategically to plan and accomplish goals. Experience and Education To be considered for the position, the following qualifications are desired: Five years of senior level management responsibility. A respected leader in the nonprofit world. A bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, social work, human services administration or a closely related field. Professional experience may substitute for the degree. Skilled in staff development and board development, program management, and fund development skills. Highly self‑motivated and able to effectively motivate others, able to be diplomatic and persuasive. Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with the external community.
