Overview Job Title: Registered EEG Tech (Electroencephalographic Technologists) Department: EEG Reports to: EEG Manager Medical, Dental & Vision benefits paid by Employer! Compensation: Min $32.66 - Max $50.55 Schedule: First Shift Definition of Position The Electroencephalographic (EEG) technician is responsible to the Manager of sleep lab and the interpreting Neurologist. The EEG technician performs adult/pediatric standard and ambulatory Electroencephalograms (EEGs). This person will be responsible for the performance of EEGs in a competent and efficient manner. They will ensure accurate patient assessments, patient education and quality data acquisition. The individual will be responsible for maintenance of all lab equipment, infection control, patient safety, and an effective quality assurance program. Thorough documentation, creation of concise preliminary reports, accurate billing and processing of interpreted study reports will also be done be this individual. Essential Job Functions Maintainscurrent professional credentialsand demonstrates competencythrough certification bythe American Boardof Registration ofElectroencephalographicand Evoked PotentialTechnologists (ABRET). Performs routine andambulatory EEG studiesfor adult andpediatric patients accordingto physician ordersand established laboratoryprotocols. Conducts patient assessmentsprior to testingtoidentify contraindications, special needs, andsafety concerns. Monitors patients' physicaland psychological statusthroughout testing, utilizingcritical thinking skillsto ensure patientsafety and comfort. Explains testing procedures, answers patient questions, and providesclear pre- andpost-procedure instructions. Obtains accurate, artifact-free recordings whilerecognizing normal andabnormal EEG patternsand documenting significantevents during testing. Applies electrodes usingaccepted techniques andverifies proper electrodeplacement and impedance. Maintains patient confidentialityand complies withall HIPAA andorganizational privacystandards. Accurately documents patientinformation, study findings, and technical observationsin the electronicmedical record. Prepares concise preliminarytechnical reports forphysician interpretation. Processes finalized physicianreports and ensurestimely distribution toordering providers. Completes accurate coding, billing, and chargecapture documentation. Performs routine maintenance, calibration, cleaning,and troubleshooting ofEEG equipmentand promptly reportsequipment issues. Maintains laboratory suppliesand assists withinventory management. Adheres to infectionpreventionand control standards, including cleaning anddisinfecting equipmentbetween patients. Participates in departmentalquality assurance andperformanceimprovement activities. Maintains CPR certificationand required continuingeducation to remaincurrent with evolvingneurodiagnostic practices. Collaborate effectivelywith physicians, nursingstaff, and otherhealthcare professionalsto coordinate patientcare. The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures. Education Highschool/GED graduate Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with an emphasis on physical or biological sciences preferred. Licenses/ certifications/ registrations EEG/Electroencephalographic Technologists: R. EEG T credential certification by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET). Graduate of an accredited Neurodiagnostic program, Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP), recognized be ABRET. Graduate from an accredited ASET program recognized be ABRET Current CPR certification Valid Oregon Driver’s License and proof of current auto insurance Experience One-year clinical experience in EEG Lab. The role requires the ability to lift to 50 pounds independently and involves frequent pushing, pulling, carrying, or repositioning of objects or patients weighing up to 25 pounds. There may also be occasional lifting or transferring of individuals weighing over 100 pounds, with the expectation that appropriate lifting techniques, mechanical aids, or team assistance will be used to ensure safety. May to sit for long periods of time. Working Conditions This position is performed primarily in an indoor healthcare environment, such as a hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility. While the work setting is protected from outdoor weather conditions, it may be subject to variable indoor temperatures. The role involves frequent exposure to infectious and contagious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment, with the expectation that all staff follow appropriate safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. The health care environment can be fast-paced and unpredictable, requiring the ability to respond quickly to changing circumstances, including high-pressure or emergency situations.
