Position Overview The Shop Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of the shop, conducting business in a manner that complements Wagner’s Core Values, Statement of Purpose, and safety policies. Pay Rate: $80,596.14 – $110,448.67 annually (based on experience and education). Essential Functions Supervise the day‑to‑day operations of the shop, including job assignments for technicians. Provide and maintain safety equipment and oversee implementation of safety programs and training. Consult with management on annual objectives, carry out programs to meet these objectives, and develop and manage the annual shop budget. Provide reports as needed for Sales, Engineering, and other areas of the company. Initiate shop work orders, maintain relevant files and data, and monitor Work In Progress (WIP) to ensure completion within specified time frames. Ensure customers are informed of progress, receive and approve updated quotes, and that invoices accurately reflect final quotes. Co‑operate with management on policy development for production operations and equipment/facility requirements. Maintain positive control on all house and service accounts, audit expense accounts, and procure tools and supplies correctly. Maintain shop cleanliness and safety, handle warranty work, enforce contamination control standards. Collaborate with internal customers or other departments to complete projects timely and cost‑effectively. Maintain quality control over all projects, participate in emergency/on‑call rotation, and keep knowledge of product offerings. Design installation and purchase equipment for accessories on specific projects and inspect and verify functionality and serviceability where necessary. Other duties as assigned by management. Supervisory Responsibilities Oversee staff including technicians, welders, shop leads, and service personnel (varies by location). Hire, train, and direct a workforce capable of high‑volume service work. Provide continuous performance feedback, conduct timely special and annual reviews, and recommend status or salary adjustments. Ensure coverage of service personnel on weekends, holidays, and for emergency work. Collaborate with Wagner Training Institute to assess and meet training needs for employees. Required Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED. Some college or trade school experience preferred. 8 years in a responsible position within the heavy equipment service industry. 3+ years of administrative/clerical experience. 5+ years of customer service experience. 1+ year of sales experience. 3+ years of supervisory or management experience. Physical Demands & Competencies Standing, walking, talking, sitting, using hands, hearing, and telephone use. Data entry, reading/writing, reasoning, organizational, communication, and math skills. Basic familiarity with Microsoft PowerPoint; intermediate with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. Intermediate knowledge of DMS and ET/SIS/SIS Web/STW systems. Ability to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, and lift/move objects up to 32 pounds. Safety and product knowledge required. Work Environment Loud noise levels. Indoors and outdoors. Travel Requirements Up to 25% travel.
