VISION AND HEARING SCREENING TECHNICIAN TRAINEE ((PART-TIME CONTRACTUAL) - TWO POSITIONS)

LOCATION OF POSITION MDH, Carroll County Health Department, Westminster, MD 21157 Main Purpose of Job The main purpose of this part‑time contractual position is to perform entry‑level vision and hearing screening services at the Carroll County Health Department. The position will conduct vision and hearing screenings in accordance with established standards for students in Carroll County public schools from pre‑kindergarten through high school, regardless of disability status. It will also conduct screenings at preschools, daycares and community activities as scheduled. The position will maintain vision and hearing screening equipment and supplies and notify the Vision and Hearing Administrative Specialist and/or Maternal Child Health Supervisor of equipment issues. It will assist with scheduling and rescheduling screening dates for public and non‑public schools, daycares and community activities. The position requires a valid driver’s license and a reliable personal vehicle. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience: None. Note: Candidates may substitute experience operating audiometric and vision screening equipment in a vision and hearing screening program on a year‑for‑year basis for up to four years of the required education. DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bilingual in Spanish and English (writing and speaking). Experience working with school‑aged children. Experience conducting basic health screenings. Experience conducting vision or hearing screenings. Experience with medical record keeping. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Candidates for this classification may be given a medical examination and required to demonstrate the ability to perform the work required of the position prior to appointment. BENEFITS Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract, and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. Employees may also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits. Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12‑month period.
