Job Summary Position: Supervisory ECCAT, Aide Starting Date: Immediately Posting Information: First Grade hours 7:55 AM – 3:35 PM Pursuant to West Virginia Code: If a current JCS employee is selected as a finalist for this position, the employee is not eligible to transfer until the 2027–2028 school year. FLSA Status: Non-exempt Employment Term: 200 days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8 Salary: Pay Grade F/G commensurate with experience and education level, pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8a and Jefferson County Schools Salary Scale Evaluation: Performance evaluated annually by the immediate supervisor, in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314, and Jefferson County Schools Evaluation Policy for Service Personnel Job Description The ECCAT assists the teacher(s) in a variety of ways to implement instructional programs, including working directly with children in small groups or one‑to‑one. The role establishes rapport with students from Pre‑K through Third Grade, motivates them to develop attitudes and knowledge needed for a solid educational foundation, and supports numeracy and literacy instruction. Applicants without an ECCAT certification must agree to enroll in and complete the required ECCAT courses to obtain early childhood assistant teacher authorization upon employment. WVDE training on the science of reading and numeracy (dyslexia/dysgraphia) is required. Eccat levels: I – temporary certification during course completion, II – permanent certification upon course completion, III – certification plus Paraprofessional credential. Specialized Skills and Requirements All applicants must provide references and may be required to participate in interviews. Failure to provide references or to participate may negatively affect eligibility. Performance Responsibilities Demonstrate tact and self-control in addressing departmental issues. Assist teachers with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials. Conduct learning games with students according to established procedures. Maintain regular attendance and compliance with state law and county policies. Maintain a safe and conducive learning environment. Anticipate and address unforeseen crises associated with large groups of children. Assist with supervision and instruction, including construction of materials and bulletin boards. Provide individualized and small‑group instruction to reinforce teacher‑taught skills. Assist in implementing lessons based on district and school objectives and student needs. Assist with supervision of student passengers on buses, maintaining a safe traveling environment. Attend in‑services and workshops as directed. Maintain confidentiality and unquestionable integrity. Assist classroom supervision and oversee children in various school locations. Participate in bus duty, hall monitoring, lunchroom duty, playground duty, and other duties assigned by the building supervisor or principal. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A-2-5; Criminal background check pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c; Demonstrated competency on state‑approved tests, pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8e. Applicants must agree to enroll in and complete the four ECCAT courses if not already certified. Present information and respond to questions from administrators, students, staff, and the public. Perform arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) in all units of measure. Apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Interact effectively with other departments, school personnel, maintenance staff, and external contacts. Work with children and adults; support academics and behavior management. Demonstrate patience with children. Learn new skills; be flexible and willing to perform various tasks. Follow written and oral directions; complete assignments independently. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and staff. Be self‑motivated and work without direct supervision. Solve practical problems and manage variables in situations with limited standardization. Interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Accurately perform assigned tasks. Perform duties in compliance with county requirements, Board Policies, and SOPs. Promote harmonious relationships with staff and outside representatives. Maintain oral and written communication skills. Maintain interpersonal relationship skills. Dress appropriately and conform to safety standards. Physical/Mental Demands The role requires frequent stooping, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. The employee may lift or move at least 50 pounds (100 pounds vertically for Special Education and Transportation positions). Noise level ranges from 60–90 dB. Additional Job Information Individuals who have retired from a West Virginia school system are not eligible for re‑employment until 60 days after retirement. A successful work history and a minimum of three supervisory references are required for consideration. Applicants who have been dismissed or had contracts non‑renewed for cause, or who receive unfavorable reference recommendations, are not eligible.
