Registered Nurse (RN) - OR General Surgery

Location Backus Hospital (10309) Shift Details 2 12‑hour shifts 7 p‑7 a. One 8‑hour shift 11 p‑7 a. Rotating nights to include weekends. Sign‑on bonus offered (restrictions apply). Responsibilities Our nurses work in collaborative environments with strong interdisciplinary teams, focused on a patient‑centered care model in a richly diverse workspace. Under the direction and general supervision of the Nurse Manager, the registered nurse utilizes evidence‑based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies, and medical staff directions. The registered nurse applies the nursing process to develop a plan of care that meets the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of the patient and family. Mandatory Qualifications Education: Graduate of a school of nursing. Experience: One (1) year of experience and/or successful completion of The William W. Backus Hospital Nurse Residency Program. License & Certification: Current unrestricted license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut; current Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire; ability to obtain and maintain department‑specific certifications. Preferred Qualifications Education: BSN or MSN. Experience: Two (2) or more years of experience in this specific clinical area. License & Certification: Certification in the clinical area; CNOR certification. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Basic knowledge of nursing principles and practices; ability to read and understand oral and written instructions. Excellent communication skills to provide technical or complex information and instructions. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, employees, physicians, managers, and patients. Ability to handle multiple priorities, be flexible, and work as a team player in a stressful environment. Commitment to customer service and basic computer knowledge to enter and retrieve data. Problem Solving & Decision Making Requires a high level of analytical ability to gather and interpret information from various sources and to take appropriate action in response to changes, circumstances, problems, or emergency situations.
