Travel Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU

Location: Summit Medical Center, City, State

Unit Information:

• Unit Name: PCU
• Number of Beds: 34 beds in unit 630; 25 beds in unit 633
• Patient Ratios: 1:4 to 1:5 on days; 1:5 to 1:6 on nights
• Staffing Description: 3 techs when unit 630 is full; 2 techs when unit 633 is full
• Equipment: BiPAPs, high flow oxygen, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps, cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, peritoneal dialysis equipment.
• Documentation System: Meditech

Scheduling Requirements:

• Every other weekend commitment required
• 3 shifts of 12 hours each week

Floating Policy:

May require floating between PCU units or to medical-surgical floors.

Patient Experience Requirements:

• Hourly rounding on days
• Every 2-hour rounding on nights
• Utilization of AIDET principles
• Maintenance of communication boards on the 7th floor
• Department 633 features TV communication boards

Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

Qualifications:

Requested Skill Set:

• Must Have: Critical thinking skills, EKG rhythm interpretation, experience with cardiac drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips.
• Preferred: Experience with peritoneal dialysis and peripheral IV skills.

Advanced Skills Needed:

• ACLS certification
• Experience with BiPAPs, high flow oxygen, and various oxygen delivery systems
• Experience with stroke care and post-cardiac catheterization care
• Preferred experience with tube feedings and NG/Dobhoff tubes

Procedures Performed on Unit:

• Peritoneal dialysis
• Thoracentesis
• Paracentesis
• Chest tube insertions
• Dobhoff/NG tube insertions
• Central line dressing changes
• Troubleshooting wound vacs

Dress Code:

Required uniform: Black scrubs

Additional Information:

• Self-scheduling available with a 4-week schedule
• Contract requires working every other weekend
• Utilization of techs to assist in patient care
• High likelihood of contract extension after initial assignment
• Fostering a culture of care and teamwork within the unit
