Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team. This position involves working in a busy, large Level 1 Trauma environment, providing high-quality care to critically ill patients.

Shift Details

Shift Type: Nights
Shift Length: 12 hours
Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirements: Coverage typically required; additional days may be necessary

Unit Information

Unit Type: Cardiovascular Intensive Care
Number of Beds: 18
Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:2, occasionally 1:1
Common Patient Diagnoses: Heart failure, STEMI, pulmonary emboli, arrhythmias, MICU overflow

Responsibilities

Monitor and provide appropriate care for patients requiring advanced interventions
Manage ventilators, pressors, and hemodynamic monitoring (PAC, CVP, arterial lines)
Administer and titrate IV drips including epinephrine, norepinephrine, vasopressin, dobutamine, and amiodarone
Assist with critical procedures and be competent in suctioning and emergency interventions
Perform thorough assessments and ensure accurate documentation using Epic
Float to similar units as necessary and assist team members as needed

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a critical care setting
ACLS and BLS Certification required
NIHSS Certification preferred
Experience with ventilators and advanced cardiovascular support devices (IABP, Impella, CRRT) is essential
Ability to interpret telemetry strips and respond to emergency situations effectively
Flexibility with scheduling is required; self-scheduling is not available

Additional Information

Daily parking is available with multiple options for on/off campus garages and lots.
Unit-specific orientation will include two 12-hour shifts.
Patient care assistant support is minimal; teamwork is essential.
Respiratory therapy is available in the unit 24/7.
