Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Neurocritical Care, 10K Sign-on Bonus

Job Summary This position is part of the acute care pharmacy department and functions as the pharmacy expert on the interdisciplinary Neurocritical Care team. The Neurocritical Care Specialist provides clinical support for critically ill patients with neurologic and neurosurgical conditions in the Neuro ICU and contributes to consultative services for complex pharmacotherapy management, including acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, status epilepticus, traumatic brain injury, neuromonitoring‑related therapies, sedation and analgesia, anticoagulation reversal, and neuroprotective strategies. The specialist serves as a departmental leader in neurocritical care through executing initiatives, supporting quality improvement efforts, and educating pharmacy colleagues, providers, patients, and learners. Day‑to‑day activities include rounding with the multidisciplinary Neuro ICU team, optimizing medication therapy, participating in emergency response activities as appropriate, and precepting pharmacy residents or students. Non‑direct patient care activities may include medication‑use evaluations, cost‑saving initiatives, committee involvement, and participation in departmental projects, research, and practice advancement efforts related to neurocritical care and acute care pharmacy services. PGY1 with 5 years of progressive clinical practice experience. Bachelor’s Degree of Science or PharmD from an ACPE‑accredited school of pharmacy. 5 years progressive clinical practice experience within specialty with PGY1 from an ASHP‑accredited residency program or 8 years progressive clinical practice experience within specialty. Computer Skills and Data Entry English (speaking, reading, writing). Good general health and stress coping ability; moderate physical effort required (prolonged standing/walking, occasional lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs., reaching, bending, crouching). Licenses and Certifications BLS – Basic Life Support certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC). Upon hiring: Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) license within 30 days of hire. ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support course accredited by AHA or ARC required for inpatient positions within 6 months of employment. Job Duties Perform job responsibilities in accordance with organizational and departmental policies and procedures, performance improvement objectives and environmental/infection control standards. Develop, implement processes to meet regulatory requirements (JCAHO etc.). Coordinate staff training, competencies, certification and continued education specific to specialty. Assist clinical staff pharmacists with therapeutic monitoring, patient assessments, interpretation of lab values, TPN assessment and pharmacokinetic calculations. Identify opportunities for process improvements, develop and implement policies and procedures for prompt, safe and efficient patient care. Promote pharmacy through participation in multidisciplinary in‑services, meetings, publishing articles, individualized drug information, rounds, consults. Participate in education/experiential training of pharmacy students and residents. Manage P&T initiatives, monitor documented interventions, verify data, develop measures and report outcomes; support cost‑saving initiatives and formulary decisions. Mentor clinical staff pharmacists and supportive personnel; delegate tasks and evaluate performance. Preserve patient confidentiality and maintain high visibility and participation in daily activities. Perform computer order entry accurately, review medication profiles, and assess therapeutic appropriateness; document interventions such as ADRs. Engage in personal growth through education, literature searches, in‑services and meetings; participate in new employee orientation and training. Maintain professional demeanor, appearance and hygiene appropriate for the work environment. Respond to requests promptly and communicate concisely and positively. Support teamwork and cooperation; volunteer assistance as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
