K-12 Academic Tutor and Mentor

City Year seeks an Academic Tutor and Mentor to support student success in partner schools.All the relevant skills, qualifications and experience that a successful applicant will need are listed in the following description.In this role, you will provide small-group and one-on-one academic support, focusing on core subjects, homework help, and study skills.You will also build positive relationships, mentor students on social-emotional skills, and help create an inclusive, engaging classroom environment.Working within the Education, Training & E-Learning team, you’ll collaborate closely with teachers and City Year staff, receive professional development, and contribute to a culture centered on social justice, leadership, and personal growth.Provide small-group and one-on-one tutoring in core academic subjects during and after school.Support classroom instruction by reinforcing lessons and assisting teachers with learning activities.Mentor students in social-emotional skills, goal setting, and positive behavior.Monitor student progress and document academic and engagement data.Communicate regularly with teachers and school staff about student needs and growth.Help plan and lead enrichment, study sessions, and homework support.Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment.Participate in City Year trainings, coaching, and professional development sessions.Collaborate with fellow City Year team members to coordinate student support. xhqgsiq Engage families and community partners when appropriate to support student success.Tutoring in math Tutoring in reading and writing Classroom support techniques Student progress monitoring and basic data entry Behavior management and de-escalation strategies Lesson and activity planning support Basic educational technology (e.g., Google Classroom, Zoom) Written and verbal communication with educators and families Time management and organizational skills Culturally responsive and inclusive practices Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k Bachelor’s degree preferred Tutoring or teaching experience preferred Experience working with youth in school or community settings AmeriCorps eligibility (for City Year member roles) Background check clearance
