Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies is seeking bright individuals to begin a challenging, yet rewarding career path as a Workers’ Compensation Claims Adjuster. Upon successful completion of the Claims Training program, the Claims Adjuster Trainee will manage a caseload of workers compensation claims from inception to resolution. Responsibilities include initial investigation and analysis, strategic planning, management of medical care and legal processes, and client relations. Claims knowledge will continue to grow as caseloads increase in number and complexity. Responsibilities Successfully complete classroom training introducing workers compensation claims handling strategies, medical terminology, statutory requirements, and investigative skills. Conduct initial investigations of reported claims to determine coverage, compensability, severity, and gather all relevant information via three-point contact telephone calls. Calculate appropriate reserves for each claim and adjust reserves as needed per authority guidelines. Develop and update a Plan of Action for the successful resolution of each claim. Make prompt, sound decisions on issues that arise based on the best information available, ensuring work is performed in accordance with company guidelines and applicable statutory requirements. Timely escalate issues or red flags to the Supervisor. Ensure benefits due to the injured worker are calculated and issued appropriately in accordance with legal requirements, including issuance of appropriate notices and filings. Foster positive, collaborative relationships with internal and external partners, including Call Center, Medical Management, Special Investigations, and Indemnity Adjusting Staff. Participate in a training program and growth opportunities; maintain a manageable caseload and professional development. Qualifications Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is preferred. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; Spanish fluency is a plus. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills to ensure tasks are completed within hard deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to become proficient in applicable databases, systems, and vendor software programs. This hourly wage is what the employer reasonably expects to pay for the position based on potential employee qualifications, operational needs and other considerations consistent with applicable law.
