CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT

Position Overview Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to assist licensed medical staff in the examination, treatment, and care of patients at an outpatient clinic under physician supervision. Essential Job Functions Follow specific procedures, scope of practice, and instructions from licensed medical staff; Prepare patients for examination procedures, including escorting them to exam rooms, interviewing to obtain basic medical information, recording medical histories, and taking vital signs, weight, and height; Prepare treatment rooms, including setting equipment based on the procedure or purpose of examination and keeping the rooms neat and clean; Assist physicians with procedures, such as preparing and handing instruments/materials and shaving and disinfecting treatment sites; Perform venipuncture or skin puncture to draw blood; administer limited intradermal, subcutaneous, or intramuscular injections; perform skin tests; administer medication by inhalation, orally, sublingually, topically, vaginally, or rectally; Perform non-invasive screening tests, including electrocardiogram, electroencephalogram, and plethysmography; Collect non-invasive specimens (e.g., urine, sputum, semen, and stool), log them, and prepare them for testing; Perform simple laboratory tests typically performed in a medical office; Apply and remove bandages and dressings; apply orthopedic appliances; remove casts, splints, and other external devices; select and adjust crutches; remove sutures or staples from superficial incisions or lacerations; perform ear lavage; and other non-invasive procedures; As authorized, provide information and instruction to patients; assist in educating, teaching, and encouraging development of essential health habits and preventive care; Greet patients at the reception desk or counter, answer phones, schedule appointments, complete appropriate forms or records, file, retrieve documents and assist patients in ambulation and transfers; Coordinate and maintain inventory control for medical and laboratory supplies and materials to ensure efficient flow of operations; stock and order supplies as necessary; Assist with care coordination tasks and activities; Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in an emergency. Requirements Qualifications: The following certifications and licenses are required: Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program with administrative and clinical assignments issued by an accredited institution authorized to provide training pursuant to the standards established by the Medical Board of California; Current and valid Medical Assistant Certification in administrative and clinical assignments from a certifying organization approved by the Medical Board of California; Current and valid CPR Certification authorized by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. License Requirement: Valid California Class C Driver's License or alternative transportation method may be required. Physical Demands Moderate physical activity including standing or walking for extended periods, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching; work on irregular surfaces; lift objects over 25 pounds occasionally; frequently lift 10–25 pounds; will be required to undergo a general medical examination.
