Job Description
This role focuses on precision TIG (heliarc) welding of thin stainless steel to produce custom, short-run, prototype equipment for the food industry. You will apply advanced welding techniques and fabrication skills to create high-quality, food-grade components that meet strict specifications and standards.
Responsibilities

• Perform TIG (heliarc) welding on thin stainless steel components for custom, short-run, prototype equipment in the food industry.
• Use MIG welding and wire feed processes as needed to support fabrication and production requirements.
• Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and GD&T specifications to produce accurate and compliant weldments and assemblies.
• Execute intricate welding processes, both by hand and using machines, to develop complex fabrications that meet closely prescribed standards.
• Set up and operate welding equipment, including selecting and adjusting machine settings for GTAW, FCAW, and GMAW processes.
• Perform fixturing and set-up of parts and assemblies to ensure proper alignment and fit before and during welding.
• Use a variety of hand tools and measuring instruments to verify dimensions, tolerances, and overall quality of welded components.
• Apply strong math skills to calculate dimensions, layouts, and welding parameters as required for each project.
• Maintain food-grade quality standards for stainless steel welds, ensuring cleanliness, smooth finishes, and structural integrity.
• Inspect completed welds and fabrications, identify defects or deviations, and make necessary corrections to meet quality expectations.
• Collaborate with team members in a custom shop environment to support continuous learning, skill development, and process improvement.
• Follow all applicable safety procedures and guidelines while operating welding equipment and handling materials.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 7+ years of welding experience.
• Advanced TIG welding experience, particularly on thin stainless steel materials.
• Proficiency in MIG welding and wire feed processes.
• Demonstrated ability to work with food-grade stainless steel and produce high-quality, sanitary welds.
• Strong math skills to support layout, measurement, and welding calculations.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) specifications.
• Welder qualifications per ASME Section IX and/or AWS D1.1 for GTAW, FCAW, and/or GMAW in horizontal, vertical, overhead, and/or all positions.
• Ability to perform intricate welding processes, both hand and machine, for complex fabrications.
• Proficiency in using a variety of hand tools, measuring instruments, and welding equipment.
• Capability to perform fixturing and set-up for parts and assemblies prior to welding.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a custom or prototype fabrication environment.
• BG in producing equipment or components for the food industry.
• Comfort working with closely prescribed standards and specifications.
• Ability to maintain consistent quality in a laid-back, but quality-focused, production pace.
• Willingness to continually learn and develop welding and fabrication skills.

Work Environment
The role is based in a temperature-controlled, custom fabrication shop focused on producing prototype equipment. The pace is laid back in terms of speed, but expectations for weld quality and workmanship are high. Hours are not flexible, providing a consistent schedule. You will work with TIG and MIG welding equipment, wire feed systems, hand tools, and measuring instruments in an environment that emphasizes precision, cleanliness, and food-grade standards.

This is a Permanent position based out of Anoka, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $36.00/hr.
